The morning was calm in Amy's house. Emily, Alex, and Sarah were gathered around the kitchen table, still trying to make sense of everything they had learned about Nathan the previous night. Amy was quietly making coffee, the tension from the previous night still lingering in the air.
A sudden knock at the door broke the quiet, making everyone jump slightly. Amy looked puzzled—she wasn't expecting any visitors this early. She walked to the door and opened it cautiously, only to find a man standing there in a police uniform.
"Good morning," he said, his voice firm but not unfriendly. "I'm looking for Emily."
Amy blinked, taken aback by the sight of an officer. "Who... who are you?" she asked, glancing nervously toward the kitchen where Emily and the others were.
Bob offered a small, reassuring smile. "Sorry, I should've introduced myself—I'm Bob, Emily's father."
Amy hesitated, clearly surprised. "I didn't realize... I mean, come in, please," she said, stepping aside to let him in.
Emily, hearing her father's voice, appeared from the hallway. Her eyes widened in shock. "Dad? What are you doing here?"
Bob's expression softened when he saw his daughter, but there was an underlying urgency in his tone. "Em, we need to talk. I found you because... well, if I could, others might too."
Alex and Sarah exchanged looks, realizing what Bob was getting at. Emily's face paled slightly as she took in the meaning behind her father's words.
"You're saying the police could find me?" Emily asked, her voice low, trying to hide the panic creeping in.
Bob nodded, his face serious. "Exactly. I managed to track you down, but if I did, there's no reason the other officers won't. They're looking for you, Em. We need to be smart about this."
Amy, still standing near the door, looked bewildered. "Wait, why are they looking for her? What's going on?" she asked, clearly out of the loop.
Bob looked at her, trying to keep the situation calm. "It's complicated. But Emily's mother, Linda, is part of the reason. Things have gotten... messy, and now the police want to question Emily."
Amy frowned but nodded slowly, sensing the gravity of the situation. "I see. So, what are you planning to do?"
Bob turned back to Emily. "Look, I'm not here to drag you into any legal trouble. I just want to help. If the police come knocking, I can buy you some time, keep things off their radar as much as possible. But you need to tell me what's going on—what are you and your friends planning?"
Emily looked at Alex, then at Sarah, before turning back to her dad. After a long pause, she sighed. "We're trying to find out the truth about Jules and Nathan. But if you're willing to help, we'll let you in on the rest."
Bob gave a slight nod, his face unreadable for a moment, then softened. "Alright, I'm in. Just promise me you'll stay safe, and let me handle the police if they get too close."
Emily glanced at Alex and Sarah, and after a moment of shared understanding, she nodded. "Okay, Dad. Let's get through this together."
