The atmosphere in Bob's apartment was heavy with tension as he sat across from Emily and Alex, the dim light casting long shadows on the walls. Bob had just finished reading through Jules' diary, and the look on his face was a mix of disbelief and anguish. He ran a hand through his hair, struggling to process the weight of what he had just learned.

"I... I can't believe this," he stammered, his voice thick with emotion. "I never saw any of this coming. Jules... she was so strong. How did I not notice?"

Emily's heart ached at the sight of her dad looking so devastated. "It's not your fault, Dad," she reassured him, her voice trembling. "You didn't know what was happening behind closed doors."

"But I should have," he replied, his eyes dark with rage. "I should have seen the signs. I should have done more to protect her. All this time, I thought she was doing okay."

Alex shifted in his seat, trying to find the right words. "No one knew what Linda was capable of. You can't blame yourself for what she did to Jules."

Bob took a deep breath, steeling himself. "You're right. Blaming myself won't change anything. But I'm not going to let this go unanswered. I promise you both—I'll dig deeper. I'll reopen the case."

Emily's eyes widened, hope flickering in her chest. "You really think you can find something?"

"I know I can," Bob asserted, his voice firm. "There has to be something the police overlooked when they closed this case. I'll go through all the documents, every piece of evidence again. I won't stop until I find the truth."

"Thank you, Dad," Emily whispered, her heart swelling with gratitude. She reached across the table, squeezing his hand tightly. "It means the world to us."

Alex nodded, a sense of resolve settling in. "We're all in this together. Whatever it takes."

Bob's expression softened, and he glanced around his apartment, a familiar warmth creeping back into his voice. "I'm really glad to have you both here. Emily, it's been too long since you've been back. And Alex, knowing you're here for her... it gives me some comfort. I can finally relax a little, knowing you both are willing to fight for this."

Emily felt a rush of warmth at Bob's words, the sense of family wrapping around her like a blanket. They weren't alone in this fight.

"Let's stay here for a while," Alex suggested, glancing at Emily. "It's safer, and it gives Dad time to gather everything."

Bob nodded in agreement. "Absolutely. You two can stay as long as you need. We'll figure this out together."

With a plan forming, Bob stood up, determination etched on his face. "I need to get to the police station right away. It's time to reopen this case and finally seek justice for Jules."

As Bob gathered his things, Emily and Alex exchanged a glance, both feeling a surge of hope and purpose. This was the start of something important—something that might finally bring the truth to light. They would ensure that Jules was not just a memory but a catalyst for change.

Bob left the apartment, and as the door closed behind him, Emily felt a renewed sense of strength. They were not just fighting for Jules; they were fighting for a future where no one else would have to endure what she did.

They could do this together.
