Albus's heart raced as he and his friends ducked behind a row of towering bookshelves. The unmistakable voice of Professor McGonagall echoed through the library, and the last thing they needed was to get caught in the act.

"Who's there?" she repeated, her tone sharp and commanding. Albus could almost picture her, her glasses perched on her nose, scanning the dimly lit library for any sign of movement.

"What do we do?" Lily whispered, her eyes wide with fear.

"Just stay quiet," Albus murmured, glancing over at Iris, who was equally tense. "We can't let her find us."

McGonagall took a few cautious steps into the library, her gaze sweeping the rows of books. "I know someone is here. Show yourself!"

James shot Albus a panicked look. "We can't just sit here!" he hissed. "We have to—"

"Shh!" Rose interrupted, her voice barely a whisper. "Just wait."

Albus held his breath, the air thick with tension as they waited for McGonagall to either leave or find them. She paused, her gaze lingering near their hiding spot.

"Very well," she said, sounding slightly exasperated. "If you're not going to reveal yourselves, I will be forced to leave and alert the other professors. You know the rules about wandering the castle at night."

Just as Albus was about to suggest they make a run for it, Iris stepped out from behind the shelf, her courage surprising him. "Professor McGonagall, wait! We're here."

Albus felt a wave of dread wash over him. He could hardly believe Iris had just done that. McGonagall turned, her eyes narrowing as she focused on Iris.

"What were you thinking, young lady?" she said sternly. "You all know better than to be out at this hour, especially in the library."

"We—" Iris began, but McGonagall raised a hand to silence her.

"Before you explain, I want to know what you were doing here. You were not simply browsing the shelves, were you?"

Albus stepped out beside Iris, feeling the need to support her. "We were looking for something. There's a mystery about Hogwarts that we need to solve."

"A mystery?" McGonagall echoed, her brows furrowing in concern. "What kind of mystery?"

"About the runes," Albus admitted, trying to sound more confident than he felt. "We found some in the trophy room, and we think they might be linked to something hidden in the castle. It could be important."

McGonagall's expression softened slightly, but she still seemed wary. "Runes can be dangerous, especially if they are ancient. What do you know about them?"

Iris took a step forward. "We think they might be warning us about a hidden chamber that contains a powerful curse. We wanted to learn more about it before someone else did."

"A curse?" McGonagall repeated, her voice dropping to a whisper. "You understand the gravity of such claims, don't you? Hogwarts has many secrets, and some of them are best left undisturbed."

"But we have to know!" James interjected, stepping out from the shadows. "If there's a danger, we can't just ignore it. We need to figure this out before it's too late."

McGonagall's gaze shifted from one student to another, assessing their resolve. "Very well," she said finally, her voice firm but not unkind. "If you're going to pursue this, I expect you to do so with the utmost caution. I will not have you stumbling into something you're not prepared for."

Albus felt a surge of relief mixed with excitement. "Thank you, Professor. We promise to be careful."

"Now," McGonagall continued, "you'll need help. I suggest you speak with Professor Flitwick. He has extensive knowledge of ancient magic and may be able to assist you in deciphering the runes."

"Thank you, Professor," Iris said, her voice filled with gratitude.

As McGonagall turned to leave, she paused and added, "And if I find you out of your dormitory again without a good reason, there will be consequences. Understand?"

"Yes, Professor," they all chorused, a little sheepishly.

Once she had exited the library, Albus let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. "That was close," he said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"We actually got her to listen," Faith said, her eyes bright with enthusiasm. "Now we have a lead!"

"Let's find Professor Flitwick then," Iris said, determination setting into her voice. "The sooner we uncover the truth, the better."

With newfound energy, they exited the library, stepping back into the darkened corridors of Hogwarts. Albus felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. They were diving deeper into a mystery that had the potential to change everything they thought they knew about their school.

As they made their way to the Charms classroom, Albus couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. He glanced over his shoulder, but there was nothing there—just the flickering shadows cast by the torches lining the walls.

When they reached the classroom, Albus knocked softly on the door. After a moment, the familiar, cheerful voice of Professor Flitwick called from inside, "Come in!"

They stepped inside, the warm glow of the candles illuminating the small, cozy room. Flitwick was at his desk, surrounded by various enchanted objects that floated and moved around the space.

"Ah, my young scholars!" he exclaimed, his eyes twinkling behind his spectacles. "What brings you here at this late hour?"

"We need your help, Professor," Iris said, stepping forward. "We discovered some ancient runes that we believe are connected to a hidden chamber within Hogwarts, and we think it might involve a curse."

Flitwick's expression turned serious. "A curse, you say? This is very troubling news. Do you have the runes with you?"

"Yes, we remember where they are," Albus replied. "But we don't know how to decipher them."

Flitwick nodded, his fingers steepling in front of him. "Ancient magic can be quite intricate. If the runes are truly warning of something, we must approach this with care. Lead the way."

With the Professor in tow, they returned to the trophy room, anticipation buzzing in the air. Albus felt the weight of the moment bearing down on him—this was their chance to uncover the truth behind the whispers that had haunted the castle.

As they reached the runes, Albus turned to Flitwick, who examined the symbols closely. The atmosphere felt charged, as if the castle itself was holding its breath.

"Fascinating," Flitwick murmured, his wand flickering to life. "Let's see what we can uncover."

Albus's heart raced as the Professor began to cast spells over the runes, his wand glowing with a bright light. The runes responded, shimmering as if coming to life, and Albus held his breath, eager to learn what secrets they might reveal.
