Nights like these were Jenna's favorite. They reminded her of when she was Atlas's age, spending every evening under the stars, learning about constellations. It was one of her favorite things to do. She would brave the cold winters and the relentless mosquitoes that seemed determined to feast on her, but it didn't matter. Those nights were special because her parents would take time off work just to be with her. They would lay out on blankets, teaching her the names of the stars, helping her trace every constellation with her little fingers.
She could still picture it vividly: her dad would bring out heaters to keep her warm during those chilly winter nights, even building a little stargazing area with nets to keep the bugs away. It was a labor of love, something she didn't fully appreciate at the time, but now she understood just how much they had given her. They had done everything to make her happy.
Now, she had the chance to create those same moments for her children, with Natasha.
Natasha had gone out of her way to ensure their family could enjoy stargazing just like Jenna had as a child. She had installed a grassy artificial deck in their backyard, complete with soft blankets and cushions, and even made sure the floor could be heated to keep everyone cozy.
Natasha was doing the same for their kids as Jenna's parents had done for her.
As they lay on the soft grass, the night sky above was a blanket of shimmering stars. Six-year-old Stella pointed at a cluster of stars. "Look, Aj! That one over there!" she exclaimed, her voice full of excitement.
"There's the Big Dipper!" Stella exclaimed, pointing excitedly with her small finger. "See? Those stars make a big scoop shape. It's like a giant spoon in the sky. If you follow the handle, it leads to the North Star, which is right there. It's the brightest one."
As Stella pointed enthusiastically at the sky, her brother Atlas, who was sprawled out on the grass beside her, turned his head lazily and squinted at the stars. "You mean like from Chili's?" he asked, a hint of confusion in his voice.
Jenna couldn't help but laugh at Atlas's response, shaking her head with a playful smile. "The Big Dipper, not the Triple Dipper buddy." she said.
Atlas squinted up at the sky, his little brows furrowed in confusion. "I don't see it" he said, shaking his head.
Natasha added, "Yeah, I don't see it either." She shifted slightly on the blanket, trying to get a better view, but it only seemed to make things more confusing.
Jenna chuckled at their bewilderment, her laughter ringing out like music in the quiet night. "Okay, you two, let me help you out" she said, gently taking their hands. She brought their fingers up, pointing into the sky. "This is the scoop part, and it curves like this." she explained, guiding their fingers to a cluster of stars. "And this long line is the handle."
Natasha looked at Jenna, "It looks like a pot" Stella burst into giggles. Atlas joined in the laughter, his confusion fading away.
Natasha turned to Jenna. "But where's Aquarius?" she asked, her eyes scanning the sky, searching for the constellation.
Jenna smiled, glad to have their attention. "Oh, Aquarius is over there" she said, pointing to a different part of the sky. "It looks like a wavy line, kind of like a river. See those stars? They form a shape that reminds me of flowing water."
Stella squinted, trying to follow Jenna's finger. "Mommy, I don't see it" she said.
"Come here baby" Jenna replied gently, patting the space next to her. Stella quickly got up and squeezed between Jenna and Natasha, her little body excitedly wriggling into the cozy spot.
