This Natasha wasn't the type to get anxious, but today was different. She'd woken up in bed with Jenna, feeling a warmth that was unusual. Jenna had always been like a popsicle ever since she gave up her powers, cold to the touch, her icy fingers sneaking under Natasha's shirt whenever they cuddled. But today, Jenna was on top of her, wrapped around Natasha, and warm—a little too warm. It made Natasha's heart race as she gently moved Jenna onto the bed and placed a hand on her forehead. Damn. She was sick.
And right on cue, Jenna started to stir, her sleepy voice rough and raspy—hot, honestly, but clearly unwell. Natasha softly asked, "Morning. You feeling okay?" Jenna grumbled, "My head hurts." Without a word, Natasha was up, rummaging through the closet to grab one of her oversized hoodies for Jenna.
Natasha came back to see Jenna trying to make the bed."Nuh-uh. Lay your ass back down. You're not getting up today" Natasha ordered. Jenna rolled her eyes, muttering, "It's just a headache" Jenna insisted, but Natasha wasn't having it.
"You're warm" Natasha countered, and Jenna rolled her eyes. "Because I was absorbing all your body heat all night" Jenna reasoned, But one look from Natasha had her sighing and flopping back down, reluctantly pulling the blanket back over herself. Natasha tucked her in, turned on the TV, and said, "Stay here." Jenna looked up with puppy eyes, "You're not staying?"
Natasha gave her a gentle smile. "I love you dearly, baby, but one of us needs to stay healthy for the kids."
The door suddenly opened, and Ayla came bounding in with her morning greeting, followed by Atlas and Stella, who peeked around the corner. Atlas gave Jenna a once-over and said, "Ehh, you look like crap," which earned him a playful pillow toss from Natasha. Jenna laughed, "Thanks, AJ." Atlas smirked and replied, "I'm gonna get out of here before I catch whatever this is."
"Are you okay, Mom?" Stella asked, concerned. Jenna shrugged. "Just a headache, your mother's overreacting," Jenna replied, earning a scoff from Natasha, "I am not overreacting!" Then Yelena appeared in the doorway, taking one look at Jenna and adding, "She sounds like hell." Natasha shot Jenna a satisfied glance as if to say see?
Stella and Ayla offered to handle breakfast, and they all headed downstairs while Natasha made sure Jenna was comfortable. "Please make sure Yelena doesn't put our kids to work." Jenna looked at Natasha, who shrugged, "Hey, Stel makes a mean omelette."
Jenna sighed, "Go. Make sure everyone's still alive down there."
Downstairs, Natasha found Stella cracking eggs while Ayla and Atlas had a can of chicken noodle soup ready to microwave. Yelena, meanwhile, was perched on the counter, bossing Stella around. "Yeah, add more cheese. Wasn't cheesy enough last time." Stella gave her a look that was pure Natasha. Yelena raised her hands, "I'll shut up."
"Lena, quit harassing my kid" Natasha scolded playfully, moving over to kiss each of her children good morning. "Making soup for Mom?" she asked Atlas, who was fishing out the mushy carrots because Jenna hated them. "Yeah" he muttered, making Natasha smile.
Yelena feigned offense, "I just got back from a two-week mission, and this is how I'm treated?"
While the kids prepared breakfast, Natasha poured fresh orange juice for everyone. "What are everyone's plans today?"
Stella replied first, "Going to the mall with Uncle Peter, his girlfriend, Morgan, and Billy."
Atlas piped up, "Uncle Tony and Happy are taking me and Tommy to the compound to see if Tommy can break the sound barrier."
Yelena snickered, "Totally normal kids you two created here." Natasha threw her a look but couldn't help smiling as she heard Ayla say "I'm baking cookies with Auntie Lily and Wanda. You want to come, Aunt Lena?"
Yelena grinned, "Finally, one kid who's nice to me."
Atlas smirked, "I am nice" Yelena rolled her eyes, "You put shaving cream in my toothpaste." Atlas replied coolly, "You slashed my tires last week."
(In her defense he took her parking spot. Okay maybe it wasn't hers specifically, but they all had unassigned assigned parking spots)After finishing breakfast prep, Natasha carried the tray upstairs for Jenna. She set it on her lap, adding, "Eat, and then take this" sliding over some medicine. Jenna raised an eyebrow, teasing, "Are you playing nurse today?" Natasha smirked, "The kids have plans. It'll just be us."
As the morning passed, Natasha found herself resisting the urge to climb back into bed with Jenna, knowing she couldn't risk getting sick herself. Instead, she settled on the floor a few feet away, propping herself up against the side of the bed. They spent the next couple of hours watching shows together, with Jenna curled up under a mound of blankets, occasionally laughing and teasing Natasha about her self-imposed quarantine. Natasha, for her part, kept her distance, but every now and then, she'd reach over to touch Jenna's hand, comforting her in the simplest way she could.
Around lunchtime, Natasha left to prepare more food. When she returned, she carried a tray of soup and toast she'd carefully buttered. Jenna chuckled softly, amused at the sight. "Really? You're going to feed me now?"
Natasha gave her a playful smirk, sitting down beside her and lifting a spoonful of soup to Jenna's lips. "Stop fussing" she replied, her tone both caring and a bit bossy. Jenna opened her mouth, rolling her eyes dramatically as she accepted the food. Despite the laughter in her eyes, Natasha could see she was worn out, the illness sapping her usual energy.
As the afternoon wore on, Jenna's head began to nod, her eyelids drooping. Natasha saw her hand stretching out, fingers searching blindly across the bed, reaching for her. She knew Jenna well enough to understand she wouldn't sleep as peacefully on her own.
Natasha bit her lip, hesitant for a moment, before finally giving in. She climbed into bed, careful not to disturb Jenna too much as she slid under the covers and lay beside her. Jenna's eyes fluttered open, a faint smile on her lips as she noticed Natasha lying there.
"I thought I was contagious" she murmured, her voice soft and teasing. Natasha rolled her eyes, wrapping her arms around Jenna and pulling her close. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever," she whispered, a gentle smile spreading across her face. "I just missed my wife."
Jenna snuggled into her, sighing in contentment as Natasha held her close, brushing a strand of hair from her forehead. As Jenna's breathing slowed, Natasha felt her wife finally relax in her arms, her soft murmurs fading into peaceful sleep.
Needless to say, Natasha caught whatever this was the very next day and the kids ended up playing nurse with Wanda.
Lily also joined in as a nurse, but with a very clear bias.
