The crowd roared around her, a cacophony of excitement and tension filling the air. Stina Blackstenius wiped the sweat from her brow, her eyes locked on the Chelsea defense. They were resolute, solid, a blue wall determined to keep her from finding the back of the net. But Stina wasn’t one to back down easily.
The ball came to her feet, perfectly weighted, from the midfield. With one deft touch, she brought it under control, eyes flicking up to scan the field. Chelsea’s backline had closed ranks, Millie Bright at the center, a formidable presence ready to thwart her every move. But Stina had faced challenges like this before.
She took a breath, shifting her weight. A quick burst of speed saw her break past one defender, her cleats skidding slightly on the slick grass. She could feel the pressure building the footsteps of Chelsea players closing in, the expectation from her teammates behind her.
Twenty yards out now, and Bright was closing fast. Stina made her decision. A sudden cut to the right gave her a moment’s space, just enough to wind up for a strike. The ball flew off her boot, powerful and precise, curling toward the top corner.
For a split second, time seemed to slow. The Chelsea keeper, Hannah Hampton, stretched her frame, fingertips reaching desperately toward the ball. The crowd held its breath.
And then the net rippled. A roar erupted from the Arsenal fans. Stina raised her arms in triumph, the goal finally hers. She had broken through Chelsea’s defense. Another battle won.
