Alessia Russo was trying her best to focus. The upcoming match was a big one, and she needed to get into the right mindset. But Kyra Cooney-Cross had other plans.

"Lessiiiiiii!" Kyra whined, draping herself over Alessia's shoulders like a scarf. "Come on, take a break. You're too serious!"

"I'm focused," Alessia muttered, pushing Kyra off with a laugh. "You should try it sometime."

Kyra smirked and grabbed Alessia's water bottle, dangling it out of reach. "Focused on what, exactly? Staring at the same tactics board for an hour?"

Alessia shot her a mock glare, lunging for the bottle. Kyra darted back, giggling. "Kyra, seriously," Alessia said, trying to sound stern but failing miserably. "Give it back."

"Make me," Kyra teased, holding the bottle behind her back. Alessia raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, I will."

In a split second, Alessia darted forward, tackling Kyra to the ground in a playful wrestle. Both were laughing, Kyra flailing dramatically, pretending to be helpless.

"Okay, okay! Truce!" Kyra surrendered, holding the bottle up in defeat. Alessia snatched it back with a grin and sat up, shaking her head at her best friend.

"You're such a pest," Alessia said, though her tone was full of affection.

"Yeah, but you love me," Kyra shot back, sitting up beside her. "I'm just helping you loosen up. You're too tense."

Alessia sighed, wiping a stray strand of hair from her face. "Maybe you're right," she admitted, leaning back on her hands. "I just-there's a lot riding on this game."

Kyra nudged her with her elbow, her expression softening. "I get it. But that's why you've got me. To keep you from overthinking it."

Alessia smiled, feeling the tension ease just a little. "Thanks, Kyra. You're annoying, but you're good at that."

Kyra grinned, eyes twinkling. "Annoying is my specialty. Now, are we going to crush this game or what?"

With a laugh, Alessia stood up and extended a hand to her best friend. "Yeah, we are. Together."

"Always," Kyra replied, taking her hand.
