Esmond and I followed the Guard through the halls; I had slipped my hand into Esmond's and held it tightly trying to get some sort of comfort from it. We stopped in front of Odin's bedroom door, two Guards we stood guarding the door, weapons at the ready...
"The King wishes to see you alone," The Guard told me.
I sighed and nodded. I gently pushed the door open, I entered the room and saw a large golden bed, Odin was laying in bed looking very pale and very still.
"Hela, come here," Odin ordered me softly.
I looked at the healer who was stood next to him, she nodded softly and left the room. I went to his side and knelt down next to his bed side.
"How are you?" I asked softly.
"I am dying Hela," Odin told me softly, tears started to form in my eyes. "Hela you must listen to me. You are my chosen heir to the throne and I don't want to listen to you say other ways. Child you are strong minded like you Father, a loyal and faithful young lady who is capable of great things."
I shook my head. "I am not that person, Thor is your son," I pointed out. "Have we not had similar conversations?"
"Hela you must embrace who you are," He told me softly. "I know what you did yesterday when the elves attacked and I know what you did for Esmonds Mother."
"Then you know I can save you!" I told him.
"No Hela, you are not able to control your powers yet, you are still growing," He told me.
Tears slid down my cheek. "I can try," I told him quietly.
Odin smiled. "So much like your Mother, she stood by those she loved ," He told me. "Late at night she would sing to you while you were inside her. She loved you so much and she made me promise to help you become the women you will soon be."
"Odin I can't do this on my own," I told him.
I don't know what to do, how am I supposed to know what to do?
"Esmond will help you, he has helped you since you got here," Odin told me. "I am old but not blind. I see the way you look at each other, your blue eyes shine with joy when you see him and when you're not looking he smiles at everything you say."
I smiled. "What about the dark elves, what if they come?" I asked; I won't know what to do, I don't know how to control an army!
"When the time comes, you will know what to do," Odin told. "GUARDS!"
"Yes all Father?" One asked as he came in.
"Hand me my staff!" He ordered; The Guard picked up the staff and handed it to Odin. "Guard your are a witness to what I am about to do!"
The Guard nodded. "Yes my King!"
Odin sucked in a breath. "Princess Hela, Goddess of Music, you are my chosen heir to the throne of Asgard!" He boomed and held his staff over my head. "You are here by declared Queen Hela of Asgard!"
Tears pooled my eyes as a bright light came from the staff.
I looked at Odin's shaking body. "Take it Hela, become the Goddess you are destined to be," He told me, I stood up and wrapped two hands around the staff. "I see greatness in you."
I closed my eyes and Odin stopped breathing and his eye closed. Tears streamed down my cheeks... Did all that really just happen?
"What happened?" Esmond asked from behind me. I didn't turn round I just looked at Odin.
"The King is dead," The Guard told him.
"Princess?" Esmond asked me.
"You will address her as Queen!" The Guard snapped.
"What?" He asked.
I slowly turned round and faced Esmond, I held the staff tightly in my hands. "He made me Queen," I told him. "There is no denying it now."
Esmond ran his hands through his hair. "Denying what?" He asked softly.
I held the staff in my right hand. "I am Hela the Goddess of Music!" I stated then looked at the other Guards as they entered the room. "The Queen Of Asgard!"
The Guards and Esmond knelt on the ground and bowed their heads.
I sighed; I hope the warriors three, Sif, Thor and Dad were okay...
