It was the night of homecoming and Juliana was trying her best to enjoy herself and have a good time. She didn't know the last time she was genuinely happy and didn't feel like she could cry at any given moment, but she did know it was before she and Nate broke up.
She honestly didn't know if she would ever be over him. She wasn't sure if it was even possible. But she was sick of feeling constantly depressed and just wanted to have a fun night with her friends for once.
Her, Cassie, Maddy, Lexie and Kat were all at the Howard's house. The sisters' room a mess of discarded clothes and makeup on almost every surface while everyone was rushing around to get ready.
She was wearing the dress she bought while shopping with Maddy and Cassie. It was a midnight blue that made her skin look even more tan than usual, with some intricate floral and glittery designs. It was floor length with a low-cut front and perfectly form-fitting.
She paired it with white heels and silver dangly earrings, with her hair in pretty curls thanks to Cassie, and her makeup immaculately done thanks to Maddy.
"You look so hot, bitch!" Maddy squealed, walking out of the bathroom in a partially sheer black, sparkly two-piece outfit.
"Thanks to you and Cass, and says you!" Juliana exclaimed in a forced cheerful voice.
Maddy could tell it was fake and leaned in to hug her. "I know it's really hard right now but trust me, it's going to get better." She spoke quietly, knowing she didn't want to talk about Nate or anything related to him tonight. She didn't want to bring down her own mood or be a burden to her friends.
She nodded and smiled, feeling very grateful for her friendship with Maddy and the rest of the girls, too. She knew Maddy was probably right, and for the first time in a while, she felt a little bit hopeful.
"One more, everyone smile!"
Suze, with a wineglass in one hand and her phone in the other, was taking photos of the girls who were posing on the staircase.
"You all look gorgeous, you're going to have the best time, especially going with each other!"
They were all so over guys at the moment that it worked out perfectly for them to all go together, with no dates and no drama.
Cassie and McKay had recently broken up and Maddy was in a phase of wanting to be single after the last few guys she dated ended up being complete losers.
Kat was fed up with the weird situationship her and Ethan were in and Lexie usually wasn't too interested in any boys at school.
Then there was Juliana, who was trying to remain positive despite the fact that she was heartbroken and had no idea how to deal with it.
"Anyone want some?" Maddy offered, holding up the Gatorade bottle in her hand after taking a big swig.
They were all sitting at a table in the school gym, along with Rue and Jules who they ran into when they arrived. It was dim and it was decorated with fairy lights with glittery stars hanging from the ceiling. There was music playing from the big speakers set up around the room.
