"Nate, wait."
Juliana pulled away from Nate, her lips tingling from kissing him for so long. He looked down at her, admiring again how beautiful she looked in her silky green dress.
"What is it?" He asked, his voice hoarse.
"I don't know if we should do this." She spoke quietly, her eyes on the floor, unable to meet his gaze. She knew if she did, she would just go back to kissing him again and she wouldn't be able to stop again.
"I love you so much, Angel, and I swear I will never do anything to hurt you ever again." He tucked his fingers under her chin, gently tipping her face up to look at him.
"I don't know..."
Nate started to panic. He thought he had her after convincing her to dance with him and spending the last forty-five minutes kissing in each other's arms in the middle of the gym, slowly swaying together even where there were fast songs playing.
But now she was starting to second guess what they were doing, and he had to do something before she was gone again.
"Can we just have an actual conversation about us? We haven't done that since you left, and I don't blame you, but I really think we need to sit down and talk to each other."
She wrapped her arms around him and leaned into his chest again without responding. She was trying to decide what to say, but her mind was all over the place.
"Please, Juliana. Just give me a chance to actually talk to you, that's all." He pleaded.
"Okay." She finally agreed.
"Do you want to go now?"
She glanced across at the table where Cassie, Maddy, Lexie and Kat were still sitting under the glow of the fairy lights that decorated the gym. They were laughing loudly at something, looking happy in each other's company.
"No, not right now. I'm staying here with my girls. Later tonight, after this?"
"Of course, whatever you want. You have fun with them and I'll see you after. Let me know when, I can pick you up whenever you're ready." He was so relieved that she was finally giving him a chance to redeem himself that he would agree to whatever she said.
"Okay." She said again. She didn't want to say too much because she really didn't know what she wanted to do.
Well, she knew what she wanted to do, which was get back with him and forget everything that happened.
But she didn't know what she should do. Every time she thought she could forget the past, the memories of him grabbing her and the awful things he said came back.
As much as she loved him and wanted to be with him again, she didn't know if she could. She didn't understand how the sweet Nate that she knew, the one in front of her now that had been her best friend her whole life and would do anything for her, was the same one who did all those terrible things.
