The room was heavy with a silence that echoed louder than any battle cry. Each of the heroes bore the weight of Mega Man's sacrifice in their own way. His helmet, resting at the center of the table, was a grim reminder of what they had lost and the formidable enemy they faced. It was scratched and dented, yet somehow retained the spirit of the warrior who had worn it with such courage.

Bass paced erratically, his rage unfiltered. His fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles cracked, but he didn’t care. His body trembled with fury he couldn't contain, each movement wild and violent.

"He had to die for nothing?!" Bass snarled through gritted teeth. "How many more have to be sacrificed before we can end this?!"

Roll stepped forward, her usual cheerful demeanor replaced by a solemn expression that didn't quite fit her. Her eyes were red and puffy, but she managed to offer Bass a weak, trembling smile. "He didn’t die for nothing, Bass. He gave us a chance. He gave us hope."

Bass looked at her, his anger momentarily wavering, but not fading. He took a step back, still seething, as if struggling to contain the eruption of emotions boiling inside him.

Across the room, Donkey Kong, overwhelmed by everything that had transpired, repeatedly clenched and unclenched his massive fists. His mind struggled to make sense of what had happened.

"What… what kind of machine was that?" Donkey Kong's voice was gruff, filled with confusion. "How could it do this? Mega Man was one of the strongest fighters I’ve ever seen, and that… thing…"

Peach, ever the pillar of strength and kindness, stepped forward. Her voice was calm, yet there was an underlying power in her words that commanded attention. "Donkey Kong, everyone… I know what we face seems impossible. But we cannot give in to despair. We owe it to Mega Man to continue his fight. We owe it to all those who have sacrificed before him. Daisy will bring Rosalina, and when she does, we’ll have more allies, more hope. We’ll find a way to heal Link, reclaim Hyrule, and rebuild the Kong Kingdom. This isn’t the end. We will fight, and we will win. For Mega Man… for everyone."

Her words lingered in the air, and for the first time since Mega Man’s sacrifice, the group felt a flicker of hope. Even Bass, simmering with rage, felt a small spark light up inside him.

But Samus, ever the pragmatic warrior, cut through the moment of hope with the question that had been nagging at everyone. "Alright, then. What was that thing?"

Dr. Light, who had been standing off to the side, lost in his thoughts, was pulled back to the present by Samus’s question. He walked over to the console, activating the monitor, which flickered to life, showing the schematics and 3D model of a machine that looked vaguely similar to Mega Man but more advanced, more human-like.

"It wasn’t a robot," Dr. Light said softly, almost as if speaking to himself. "It was a reploid. My own design… or rather, an evolution of my work. It’s… it’s what I envisioned to be the future of robotics."

The heroes exchanged puzzled glances. "Reploid?" Fox asked, confused. "What’s the difference?"

Dr. Light sighed, his voice tinged with regret. "Reploids are different from typical robots. They have free will. They can think, feel, and make their own choices, just like humans. They don’t have the 3 laws of robotics programmed into them. I created the first reploid as a testament to what robotics could become. I named him ‘X.’"

Dr. Light clicked a button, and the screen shifted to a blue-armored reploid, sleek and advanced, with a soft but determined look in its eyes. X carried a sense of responsibility, a potential for greatness.

"X was meant to be the next step in robotic evolution," Dr. Light continued. "A being who could make choices, who could understand right from wrong. But when I finished him, I realized he wasn’t ready. There were still so many variables, so many aspects of his systems that needed time to develop. I sealed him away, hoping that he would one day awaken when he was ready to handle the burden of free will. But… Wily… he must have stolen my research. He created his own reploid—Zero."

Zelda stepped forward, her voice filled with worry. "Is there any chance… any hope that X could help us now?"

Dr. Light shook his head, his voice heavy with sorrow. "No, Princess Zelda. I’m afraid not. X’s systems weren’t ready for activation. It will take years—maybe decades—before he can fulfill his potential. I’m afraid… I may not live long enough to see him awaken."

The room fell into silence once more, hope slipping away again. Roll stepped forward. Her thin frame seemed to take on a presence far greater than her size. She looked up at the screen, then down at Mega Man’s helmet. Gently, she picked it up, holding it close to her chest, her eyes welling up with tears. Her voice, though shaky, was filled with determination.

"Then I’ll do it," Roll said quietly. "I’ll take Mega Man’s place."

Dr. Light looked startled, shaking his head. "No, Roll… I can’t allow you to—"

"I can do it, Doctor," Roll cut him off, her voice firm. "I’m not asking. Mega Man was my brother. We were built together. I might not be a fighter now, but you can make me one. Just like you did for him. You can install the Double Gear system in me. You can make me what I need to be."

Dr. Light stared at her, his heart aching. Roll had always been like a daughter to him, and the thought of putting her in harm’s way was unbearable. "Roll… I couldn’t bear to lose you too…"

"You won’t lose me," Roll said, smiling through her tears. "And you won’t lose anyone else. Because I’m going to fight. And I’m going to win. For Mega Man. For all of us."

Tails, who had been listening quietly, stepped forward, placing a hand on Dr. Light’s shoulder. "She’s right, Doctor. We need all the help we can get. If Roll’s willing to do this, I’ll help. We’ll make her stronger than ever."

Dr. Light looked between Roll and Tails, his heart heavy with the weight of what he was being asked to do. Finally, with a deep, shaky breath, he nodded. "Alright… we’ll do it. But we must be careful. This path won’t be easy."

Roll’s smile grew a bit stronger, a bit braver. "I wouldn’t want it any other way."

As Dr. Light and Tails began preparing for the upgrade, the heroes watched with a renewed sense of purpose. They had suffered losses, and they had been pushed to the brink. But now, with Roll stepping up to continue her brother's legacy, they had a glimmer of hope once more.

And sometimes, a single light in the darkness is all that’s needed to spark a fire that can change the world.
