Chapter 19- ☆Hope☆

Third Person's POV

  The inaudible sounds around you became clear as you heard the cries of people in the surrounding.

Your lungs begged for a breather but you couldn't breathe, your body was cold as your airway was clogged with water. In a quick motion you coughed water, a few times before it became easy to breathe.

Air.

Your airway filled with fresh air and you gasped.Your throat stung and the corner of your eyes burned. The brightness of the day entered your sight. You slowly opened your eyes, meeting with the eyes of a few people you recognized.

He was there too.

"Are you okay?" Your head turned towards the voice to find miss annie. You nodded gulping as your throat felt dry.

Miss Annie's face was filled with concern. You looked around and the surrounding was filled with people, some crying while the doctors treated the students.

Then, you remembered the bus driving rashly collapsing off the bridge, and how you ended up slipping out of the bus entrance while preventing a kid from slipping out. You slowly got up and  hissed as a sudden dizziness hit you. You placed your one hand on your head to try and support your head.

"What happened?!" You heard vijay. he hurriedly took a few steps ahead and his hand caressed your soaked hair, his expression worried and filled with concern. "Are you hurt?" He asked.

you looked at him, his touch seemingly careful and light. His gesture igniting flames of hope within you. Your chest felt warmed, surely strange because you were soaked and freezing.

"Oh...y-yeah I'm alright, a little dizziness" you said moving your gaze to look elsewhere. You found miss annie chatting with rajendra at a distance, when did they move there? You wondered. He withdrew his hand back hesitantly.

Your attention went to the sharp breath vijay took, is he troubled? You thought.

"Y/n...i-" he began to speak, his voice heavy with emotions but he paused to gather his thoughts. "Don't avoid me now" he finished and your head snapped to his direction.

Did it seem like you were trying to avoid him? And he's telling you to not? Funny, because he was the one to avoid you first.

You wanted to laugh but couldn't. You took a good look at him, his form was soaked, wet hair sticking to his forehead as he wore a restless expression. You noticed his eyes which seemed red probably because he was under water, or he was crying?

Your words stuck on your throat, refusing to come out as you tried to speak. But you had to, when he was willing to listen.

"I-" you began but rajendra comes up to vijay with phone in his hands and gives it to him. You close your lips and watch as he walks a few steps listening, not uttering a single word in the call.

His expression was serious, as if he would punch someone if he could. His back turned and his gaze met yours with wide eyes. He turned back and you wondered what it was?

"What did he say?" Rajendra questions walking up to vijay.  Who 'he' is he talking about?

Suddenly you hear laughter emerging from vijay as he runs hus hand through his hair.

"Bastard, he was asking for my last wish" he said a hint of mockery in his voice.

"Who?" You asked and his gaze turned to you, softening a little. You moved trying to Stand up from the stretcher wobbling slightly.

Vijay moved swiftly and held your shoulders supporting you as you stood up. His touch seemingly cold from being soaked. "You should go home and rest" he said with concern.

"I will,  but first what's going on and who called you?" You inquired again hoping to get an answer this time.

"The bus collapsed into the lake, but it was not an accident" he said and you frowned your brows confused but kept listening. "It was the minister, vanamaamalai who did this" he said and your eyes widened.

"Him? Why? Did he-" you began.

"Yes, he found out that I'm alive" he said completing your sentence. You turned to him and his hands left your shoulders.

"But why did he attack the bus?" You asked, questions were crucial. Your mind clicked and your Expression turned from confusion to shock.

"Looks like you got it" he said and you looked around, searching. "Nidhi's with the other kids, she's safe" he said noticing your gaze.

"He tried to warn me by doing this" vijay further spoke. A smile, seemingly filled with mockery crept up his lips as he spoke further. "He wanted to know my last wish, bastard I'll show him his last wish"

You looked at him. he looked similar, to his old self, confident and unserious at times. Your lips formed a smile.

"You sound like an officer" you remarked with raised eyebrows.

He laughed.

"I am so i sound like one" he said and ran his hand through his wet hair.
"And you're gonna like that" he mumbled to himself.

"What?" You asked not hearing him.  He shook his head with a nothing and passed you a smile.

"We should get you home, it must be cold" he said and you nodded feeling the lake's cold breeze pass through your  shivering body.

"Aren't you cold yourself?" You asked and he looked down at himself.

"A little, but you're the one who almost got drowned in the lake" he said shrugging his shoulders.

"It's not like i have a hobby of diving into the lake, i didn't have any choice" you said defensively.

"Yeah, I didn't say you have a choice i just said that you almost drowned" he said trying to explain himself. You sighed.

"Why are we having this conversation?" You asked.

"Because-" he began to speak but paused. "You're right, why are we having this conversation?" He rephrased and you mentally facepalmed.

"Let's discuss everything later and get you two home" miss annie spoke walking towards you and you turned to her. "If you stay like this you'll become sick" she said referring to the both of you.

"Yeah! Nidhi is also waiting" rajendra said and you nodded with an agreement.

"I'll drop nidhi home" miss annie said.

"I have to go to the bakery so, I'll also go" rajendra said and both of them went away not before giving you a nod.

You stood there and watched as they walked away. There was silence, neither vijay nor you talked for a minute and became a little awkward.

You remembered you had confessed to vijay, which added fuel to the fire making it uncomfortably awkward for you. Your thoughts ran wild and you wanted to jump into the lake again.

"So, let's go" Vijay's voice pulled you out of your thoughts and you nodded quickly.

You followed behind him as he lead you up the road. Awkwardness was a must, and you couldn't even look at him without feeling embarrassed. How could you ride back with him?!

You prayed, to get quickly home.
