As soon as the footsteps of an outsider stopped inside the bathroom, both Vee and Boat fell silent. They were so quiet that they could clearly hear each other's breathing. The fear of being caught started to grow, but both of them tried to stay as still as possible. Finally, after the uninvited guest finished their business and left, Vee and Boat's demeanor relaxed. The taller one exhaled deeply with relief.
"Want to continue?" Vee asked with a smirk.
"..." Boat remained silent but shook his head in response.
"..."
"This is all I can give you."
The younger one said only that before reaching out to open the door and walking out of the bathroom, leaving a sense of emptiness for the older one, who stood still after hearing those words. It felt like a sharp knife stabbing him in the heart. Vee couldn't deny that the other's words made him feel deeply hurt.
What he had hoped would be a night of good memories turned out to be the opposite. He felt a heaviness in his heart but couldn't do anything more than this. The sadness that overwhelmed him made everything at the table seem to lose its fun thereafter. That night ended with everyone going their separate ways home. Vee and Boat seemed tense with each other, while the BL fangirls like May and Muan Fan also left with gloomy faces.
The next day, Vee didn't feel like going to the theater at all, even though there was a performance scheduled. Usually, he would be much more enthusiastic about going to the theater because he knew he would see Boat. But last night's events made him unsure of how to act if he encountered the other person. He didn't know if they could face each other or if last night's incident would make Boat hate him. Various thoughts kept coming non-stop. His heart was beating irregularly due to anxiety about unpredictable events that might occur.
Vee walked into the theater with snacks he bought for Boat, just like every morning, trying to put on a brave face. The snacks he brought along were like a charm that would help him approach Boat without seeming too unusual. But all the anxiety seemed to ease a bit when Vee saw that the other turned to greet him with a wave as if everything was normal, as if last night's events had never happened.
Doesn't he feel anything at all?
Or was he too drunk to remember?
Anxiety turned into curiosity, battling in Vee's head. He didn't understand why Boat was acting so normal, as if nothing had happened in the bathroom yesterday.
"I bought some snacks for you," the older one said, holding out the bag of snacks.
"Oh, thank you," Boat responded, accepting the snacks from the older one's hand before giving him a smile. That crescent-eyed smile still made Vee's heart race as usual.
"I saw you like them, so I bought some for you on my way here," Vee said only that in a gentle tone before walking to sit in a corner of the theater to wait for the rehearsal to begin.
Actually, what Vee had been worried about all night until this morning turned out to be the opposite. He had thought that Boat might be resistant or distant, but it wasn't like that at all. When the younger one still acted normally, there was no indication that made him suspect the other was changing. Although Vee hadn't received a clear answer from Boat's mouth, just this much was enough to give him a little hope that in the future he might be able to win the other's heart someday.
No answer, no resistance, no distance—there might be a chance that Boat would be okay with the feelings that had developed.
Throughout the day, Vee took care of Boat attentively. Although he felt like something was still stuck in his heart, he tried to overlook it. Since Boat was acting normal, he would try to act normal too.
