Vee sat in his room, staring at his phone screen with confused thoughts. A sense of resentment still lingered in his feelings. No matter how many times he heard the word "brothers" from Boat's mouth, it seemed he would never get used to it.

He tried to keep himself busy all the time because he didn't want to sit and dwell on thoughts about Boat. But every time he stopped to relax, his thoughts inevitably circled back to Boat.

Sigh!

Vee sighed as he thought about how close they were before everything became as complicated as it is now. It wasn't normal for him to avoid anyone, but after confessing his feelings to Boat and receiving only the answer to remain brothers, it made Vee feel hurt. That answer made him feel rejected, and that feeling was too painful for him to bear. So Vee decided to distance himself, even though it was difficult.

As time passed, Vee's patience began to wear thin. He missed Boat more than he was willing to admit. But every time Boat tried to talk to him, Vee would find a way to avoid it or just stay silent, not responding to any conversation. He was afraid the other might misunderstand, but he hoped Boat would understand why he was acting this way.

Because the closer he got, the more it hurt Vee. The word "brothers" still echoed clearly in his head every time he saw Boat's face.

As Boat's birthday approached, Vee's thoughts became even more chaotic. He wanted to do something special for Boat, but his feelings of anger and disappointment made him reluctant to speak to Boat directly. That's why he decided to ask May, their close friend, for help.

They met at the cafe and bar they frequently visited together. The place had a warm and cozy atmosphere with wooden furniture and dim lights that made it feel relaxing. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mixed with the smell of baked goods in the oven. Vee looked at May, who was sipping her drink. She frowned slightly when she heard his request.

"Are you sure you don't want to invite Boat yourself?" May asked, tilting her head slightly in curiosity.

Vee shook his head and avoided her gaze. "I'm not ready to talk to him yet. It still feels awkward. To be honest, I'm a bit angry too. He said we could only be brothers. Damn! Were his actions towards me really like a brother's? That's why I don't want to talk to him. But it's his birthday, you know. I secretly want to have a moment to do something for him."

"Sigh..." May let out a long sigh, glancing at her best friend from the corner of her eye. She couldn't be angry even if she wanted to. It was rare to see Vee this crazy about love.

"But it's up to you. If you don't want to invite him, that's fine. I'm not saying anything."

"..." May crossed her arms and looked at her friend as he started to complain.

"This is where true friendship is tested."

"Okay!!! I'll try to invite him. Damn! Stop being so dramatic, or I'll hit you."

"Hehe, thanks, dear friend," Vee smiled sheepishly and hugged his female friend tightly.

"But there's one condition. When Boat arrives, you're not allowed to run and hide."

"Hey! I'm the one who wanted him to come. Why would I hide from him? You're saying Veed things."

That evening, Vee, May, and Muan Fan came to the cafe and bar. The place was busier than usual because it was a holiday. The customers filled the place, talking and laughing merrily. The live band played continuously, creating a great atmosphere for the place.

Vee looked around anxiously, waiting for Boat to arrive. A few minutes later, Boat walked into the shop, looking slightly surprised to see everyone there.

"Hello, everyone."

Boat smiled slightly and greeted everyone before his eyes stopped on Vee. Feeling the gaze, Vee quickly turned away, pretending to be busy with his mobile phone. But the younger one wasn't giving up easily. He walked over and sat next to Vee, whose body had stiffened entirely as the other approached and sat nearby.

"P'Vee..."

"Huh... Hmm?"

"Can we talk?" Boat asked in a soft but determined tone.

Vee hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed. They both got up and walked outside the shop, where the cool evening air touched their faces. The sound from inside the shop began to fade as they walked away and stood in silence. The tension between the two was immediately palpable.

"What's wrong with you? Why have you been avoiding me all this time?" Boat asked, frowning with concern.

Vee took a deep breath, his heart beating faster than usual. He hesitated for a moment before deciding to respond. "We've told you everything in our hearts, but all you answered was for us to be brothers..."

"..." Boat listened silently.

"It's like you don't care about our feelings at all."

Boat's expression softened, and he stepped closer to Vee. "I do care, P'. About your feelings. But..."

"But what?"

"But I'm not ready. For that kind of relationship. You're a nice person, and you've been so good to me. I just want you to be in my life, but... not in that way. Not right now."

Vee felt a mix of anger, frustration, and sadness. "You're selfish!"

"What? What did I do wrong?" As soon as he was scolded, Boat argued back, not understanding.

"You want us to stay close, but you don't want to give me what I need. How is that fair?"

"..."

"If this isn't called selfish, then what should we call it?" Vee's voice grew harder with each word as his anger continued to build.

Boat didn't have an immediate answer. He lowered his head for a moment before May and Muan Fan walked out to join them, sensing the increasing tension.

"Guys... We were having fun. Don't ruin the atmosphere tonight," Muan Fan tried to speak, attempting to make the atmosphere more relaxed. "It's Boat's birthday, you know."

May nodded in agreement. "Yeah, let's go back inside and continue having fun."

"That's right, there's still a cake waiting to be blown out," Muan Fan added, showing an excited expression to cover up the tense atmosphere in front of her.

Vee and Boat reluctantly followed their friends back inside. The atmosphere was slightly awkward, but May and Muan Fan tried their best to keep the conversation flowing. When the cake was brought out, everyone joined in singing Happy Birthday to Boat. Vee tried to smile, but his heart felt heavy.

After the cake was divided and everyone had their share, they started to leave for home. Vee still sat still for a moment, watching Boat thank everyone for coming. When Boat approached him, Vee smiled slightly, although it looked a bit forced.

"Happy birthday," Vee said softly.

"Thank you very much for organizing the birthday party," Boat replied, his eyes full of feelings that couldn't be put into words.

Vee nodded, not daring to say anything more. As he turned to walk away, Boat grabbed his arm, making him stop and turn back.

"Hmm?"

"We can find a way out of this, can't we, P'?" Boat said, his voice so low it was barely audible.

Vee looked at Boat's face fora moment before nodding again and pulling his arm away. His long legs steppedout into the night. The cool air touched his face. He took a deep breath, trying to clear his thoughts. He didn't know what their future would be like, but there was one thing he knew for sure: they would never be able to go backto the way they were before.
