Tessa walked out of the bathroom, a white robe wrapped tightly around her body. Her hair fell across her face as she looked around, confused. Apart from the dress she hated, she had nothing to wear. Tessa walked over to the bed to take a seat, but upon seeing the messy bed, she decided to make it first.
Simeon leaned back in his office chair and checked the shipping process on his laptop. His mobile phone rang, and he took a sip from the glass of wine on his table. His eyes darted to his smartphone, and he sighed in frustration. He leaned back and answered the call after the second ring.
"Roberto," he spoke, his deep, husky voice laced with a killing intent. "Get rid of that girl," Simeon sighed; it seemed nothing could escape his father.
"That's none of your business, Roberto," he replied coldly, wanting to hang up.
"As your father, I will do it for you." Then the line went dead. Simeon froze for a minute before standing up. He headed for his door, but it was locked.
"Shit!" Simeon cursed loudly; it was then he realized how serious the matter was. It wasn't time to worry about who had locked him inside; he would take care of that person later. Right now, all he worried about was Tessa; he had to get her out of there soon.
Simeon stepped back and pulled a gun from the back of his waist. He aimed at the lock and fired two bullets at it. He reached out and pulled the door open, then stepped into the hallway. Simeon looked around, but no one was in sight. His eyes turned cold as he strode toward his room.
He had never felt this anxious before, not because he was attracted to or in love with Tessa, but because it would be easy to take advantage of her presence. He was no saint; he would use her to gain power. He arrived at the door and opened it.
There she sat on his bed in a white robe, her eyes lifting to him as the door swung open. He stared at her natural, fresh look and felt something within him change. Even though his body was reacting wildly, he had no time to dwell on it.
"Where's the gun I gave you?" he spoke coldly. Her eyes darted toward the bedside table. He followed her gaze and saw the gun resting there. He strode away from her to his walk-in wardrobe and grabbed one of his white shirts.
Tessa was confused about what was happening until she saw him return with his shirt and hand it to her.
"Get dressed," he ordered. Tessa sat there, confused for a moment, before jumping to her feet. She took the shirt from his grip and lifted her head, her eyes on his handsome face. "Thank you," she whispered, heading for the bathroom.
Simeon's lips curled into a gentle smile. If only she had stayed back for a while, she would have seen it. He didn't know why he was even smiling instead of preparing everything so they could leave. When he saw his locked office door earlier, he had thought she was already in trouble, but knowing his father, that wasn't just a scare.
Simeon sat down on his bed and took the gun he had given her earlier off the bedside table. Maybe she didn't even know how to use it.
Tessa stepped out of the bathroom, her figure lost within the oversized shirt, its sleeves hiding her arms. His shirt was too big for her petite body, but to Simeon, she looked sexy. The innocent look on her face, combined with her lost figure, made her appear vulnerable. Her eyes were lowered as she tried to fold the sleeves to fit her tiny arms.
Simeon stood up with the gun, planning to walk toward her, but before he could, he heard the sound of a bullet. The gun slipped from his grasp as he quickly moved toward Tessa, his hand gripping the back of her head tightly as they fell, rolling from the floor to the bed.
All this while, Tessa was in shock; her eyes were shut, and her fist was clenched around Simeon's shirt inside the blazer. The sound of the bullet seemed familiar; she knew that she had heard it before. A blurred white picture flashed through her mind. A man was rushing toward a woman with a child, but she couldn't see the man and woman's faces clearly. A shiver rushed down her spine, and a splitting headache had her whimpering.Simeon sighed. Her whole body on top of him wasn't easing his nerves at all; it was just messing with his thinking. The shooting hadn't stopped yet, but he was so eager to leave. His father hadn't left any stone unturned. He was keen on killing her, and now Simeon was sure that Roberto knew about her real identity. Her body shivered once again in his arms, and he groaned. Why was every one of her actions affecting him?
Soon, the shooting stopped, and he sighed. He had to get out of there. Simeon sat up, making Tessa open her eyes. They locked gazes, and her whole body stilled when she realized she had been lying on top of him a moment ago and was now sitting on his lap. Out of shock, she jumped off his lap and onto the carpet. Her whole face turned red, but if not for that, he would have done what he failed to do last night.
"Let's move," he said, picking up his gun and standing up. He didn't want his thoughts to drift away from what was actually going on.
"What's going on?" Tessa asked as she stood up, following behind him as they walked out of the room. Tessa had a hard time catching up; her legs were starting to hurt, and she wondered why he had to be this fast. He had just saved her life, but after that, he seemed to forget about her, even if she was left behind.
Simeon watched as a number of expressions displayed on her face—confusion, shock, pain, and hurt realization. She turned and lay on her back, her eyes now fully opened. Tessa stared at the ceiling for a while; tears fell down her cheeks, and a small, bitter smile graced her lips.
"I remember," she whispered, and Simeon stilled in his seat. He then stood up quickly and walked toward her.
Simeon squatted right next to her and stared down at her. Tessa turned her head, and her eyes locked with his cold, green-grey ones. For a minute, she forgot where she was.
"You remembered what?" Simeon asked coldly, and Tessa sat up quickly, shrinking away from him to the sofa. The movement caused her head to hurt so badly that she felt like it would burst any minute now.
"It’s none of your business," she said through gritted teeth, feeling a bit frustrated. "Do you have any painkillers?" she added, her voice small. Simeon’s lips curled into an amused smile; she truly did remember because her behavior had changed—she wasn’t afraid of him anymore.
