The next few nights followed the same pattern, and Y/N found himself falling into a routine he hadn't expected. Each evening, as he settled into bed, Alucard would take his place at the edge, sitting quietly, his imposing figure always nearby. It was strange, at first—having the vampire so close to him, watching over him with those sharp, crimson eyes—but over time, it became oddly comforting.

Y/N couldn’t quite explain why it worked. Perhaps it was the presence of someone else, a reassurance that he wasn’t alone, even if that someone was far from human. He didn’t dwell too much on the reason behind it. All he knew was that ever since Alucard had started keeping him company at night, sleep came easier. The restlessness that had haunted him for days began to fade, and he could finally drift off without the overwhelming sense of loneliness pressing down on him.

Alucard remained silent most of the time, simply watching over him as promised. Occasionally, Y/N would steal a glance at the vampire before closing his eyes, wondering what went on in the ancient creature’s mind as he sat there. Did he find this as strange as Y/N did? Or was this just another part of his eternal duty, another task to fulfill without question?

One evening, after several days of the same routine, Y/N lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, feeling more relaxed than he had in a while. Alucard, as always, sat at his usual spot, the dim light of the room casting long shadows across his figure.

“I don’t know why this helps,” Y/N murmured aloud, his voice soft in the quiet room. “But I’m glad it does.”

Alucard’s gaze shifted toward him, a faint smile curling at the corner of his lips. “You are a peculiar one, young master.”

Y/N chuckled, though he felt a bit embarrassed. “I know it’s weird. Having you here, I mean. But it helps, somehow. I guess I just needed to feel like someone was close.”

“There is no shame in seeking comfort,” Alucard replied, his tone as smooth and dark as always. “Even the strongest souls need something to hold onto in times of uncertainty.”

Y/N blinked, surprised by the vampire’s words. He hadn’t expected Alucard to understand, but then again, Alucard had seen countless lives, countless human emotions. Maybe, in his own way, he did understand—more than Y/N realized.

“Thanks,” Y/N said after a pause, his voice quieter now. “I know it’s your job to protect me, but... it means a lot.”

Alucard didn’t respond immediately, his expression unreadable. After a moment, he simply nodded, his eyes softening ever so slightly. “Rest, young master. You are safe.”

Y/N smiled faintly, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. He closed his eyes, the warmth of sleep pulling him in once again. For the first time in a long while, he didn’t feel the creeping anxiety that had plagued him before. With Alucard there, it was like the weight of the world had lifted off his chest, and the silence of the night became something soothing rather than oppressive.
