Omega sat under the weeping maya tree, arms crossed and pouting. She hadn't known Crosshair on a personal level compared to the rest of the squad, but he was still her brother and he was asking for help. How could Hunter ignore that? Crosshair had done bad things, she knew that. After all, how could she forget that he tried to kill them, going as far as targeting her specifically, but Omega wanted to believe he had some crazy reason. Maybe he was lying about his chip, or maybe his life was in danger like it was now.
The girl sighed, reaching for a lonely stone lying hidden in the short brush surrounding the base of the sturdy tree. There were only a handful of times she was mad at Hunter. This was one of those times. Omega glared at the innocent little rock, chucking it into the courtyard of the landing zone. She watched as it rolled further and further into the distance, just how their opportunity to find Crosshair was slowly beginning to drift away.
"Are you sure that's all you need?"
Omega's head perked up as she listened to the new voices that emerged from the cool summer night's blanket of darkness. The young clone pressed her back into the wooden trunk, not muttering a word as the two new figures walked right past her. Letting out a quick breath of relief, Omega strained to hear where the conversation had left off.
"Yes, I am certain. You have done more than enough already."
"Tech?" Omega whispered; so low even she could barely hear herself.
"Be careful, Brown Eyes. Cid may not look like it, but she's dangerous where it counts."
"I have to do this. For Crosshair."
Omega gasped, immediately slapping a hand over her mouth.
"If you do manage to bring him back, I'm interested in this so-called "'sparkling personality'" you've been speaking of," Phee teased.
Omega watched as the pirate ran her hand over her awkward brother's shoulder, rubbing at a soot stain that tainted the once white armor.
"You better come back. No running off with smugglers or anyone."
"I do not think there will be any on this mission, nor would I—"
"Just promise me you're going to return in one piece," Phee's voice pleaded.
It was almost out of character for the adventurous woman whom Omega believed danger was scared of.
"You know I cannot promise that—" Tech stopped abruptly.
Omega wondered if he realized how Phee's mannerisms completely flipped. Perhaps this was like the time they were trapped in the caves. Tech cleared his throat, restarting.
"I will try my best."
Phee gave a satisfied nod. "Good," she said, eyes still focused on the man in front of her. "But, just in case—" The spontaneous pirate took a large step forward, closing the gap between the technician and herself.
Omega cocked her head, trying to see what was happening before her, but as soon as it started, Phee was shooing Tech away. For a long minute, the pirate stood in place, unmoving like a statue. The only sound being that of the gentle breeze playing with the long leafy limbs of the weeping maya.
Phee eventually turned around.
Omega froze, eyes wide as the woman she looked up to began walking toward her. Omega knew she was in the wrong. Listening in on a private conversation wasn't one of her brightest moments. She was prepared to apologize, but Phee didn't even spare her a glance. The woman's footsteps grew fainter until the little clone was left alone to her thoughts once more.
