Omega's face lit up, grinning as relief washed over her. She was finally safe. She excitedly scanned the small group of rebels trying to find the faces of her brothers in the crowd. Lux gently bent down on one knee, loosely taking her hand in a comforting manner.
"You just missed them," he filled in, seemingly understanding who she was seeking. "They left around an hour ago to bring the supplies back to Pabu."
Omega stopped her search, bringing her eyes to meet Lux's as she asked in a small voice, "T-They left me?"
"Not quite," Lux assured the child. "Hunter said they'd be back within the next two rotations."
"They left me," Omega repeated, this time to the point where barely anyone could hear her.
Lux ordered the outside bonfire to be cleared. The rebels all dispersed, heading inside to continue their conversations. Lux guided Omega to the edge of a broken wall which had been converted into a makeshift bench.
"Omega, you have to understand..."
"I know." Omega stared into the crackling fire. "I was hoping they would— I know what it looked like, but I just thought..." Omega didn't know how to describe her desperation. She knew they wouldn't have been around long after the initial call, but she held onto the thought.
"I'd contact them for you, but Saw left the planet, and he was the connection to Rex with your squad's info. I do apologize," Lux said sincerely.
Omega tried to hide her disappointment, giving the senator her best smile. "That's okay. I-I can wait a little longer."
Lux nodded, finally taking notice at how battered and bruised the kid was, aside from the singular attended wound on her cheek.
"I'll be right back," the senator said, taking off, heading into one of the nearby shelters.
Omega sat in silence, the bitter crisp night air felt good against the fire's warmth. The night was quiet. Almost too quiet. Omega brought her knees up to her chest, closing her arms around them as she listened to the flames crack. She wondered how she was to break the news to her brothers. Would they be mad that she let herself be taken so easily? Hunter warned her to stay close. She tried to get away. She really did, but she wasn't fast enough.
"Here we are." Lux's voice broke the clone from her self-detriment.
The senator set down a new medkit filled to the brim with supplies. Omega let her new friend take care of all her wounds. Most of them looked worse than they actually were. Her wrists, specifically her left, were rubbed raw from the ropes and shackles. There wasn't much Lux could do besides cover the skin with bacta cream and wrapping them with gauze. Once that was complete, Omega decided to take on the responsibility of bandaging her shin. The blood had dried a long time ago, but it had annoyingly stuck to the fabric of her trousers.
"So," Omega said as she continued to treat her injuries, "Rex is the only one that can contact the others?"
"I'm afraid so," Lux confirmed. "The last I heard he was on a mission for the next week." The senator added a new patch to the girl's arm. "I know you want to get back a soon as possible."
Omega smiled. "It's okay, really. Thanks for helping at all."
Lux's eyes shifted over to the ship just over by the edge of the jungle. "If you could fly—"
Omega's head perked up. "I know how to fly," she said quickly.
Lux's brows shot up in surprise. "Really?" He then chuckled. "Well, I've clearly underestimated you."
Omega blushed at the flattery. "I've learned from the best. Tech is the best pilot I know."
Lux zipped up the medkit, setting it to the side.
