The Bad Batch: Light In The Dark P1

A flash of blue whizzed by Omega's head, the heat from the stun blast just grazing her left cheek. The young girl ducked down behind a large bulky rock. Her mind raced through the drills her brothers taught her. At the moment they were all a jumbled mess in her mind.

Plan 21 would work, right?

Omega shook her head, trying to dispel the thoughts overwhelming her fried brain. The clone listened as the shots surprisingly ceased, leaving the air in an eerie state of silence. Omega could hear her heart thumping in her ears as she mustered the courage to rise up and take a peek out at the cause for the sudden calm despite everything in her screaming to stay put.

She just had to know.

She stood on hesitant legs. The coast in front of her was clear; there was no enemy in sight. But that couldn't be right. In that second of doubt, her instincts kicked at her, reminding her she had made a grave mistake. Omega groaned when she heard a click from behind, turning her head slowly as she came face to face with the barrel of a DC-15.

She should have trusted her gut.

"And that's your head," Echo said, lowering his blaster as Omega raised her hands in defeat.

"H-How did you...?" Omega sputtered, astonished by the ARC's agility. She swore she had his location pinned the entire time.

Echo chuckled, picking up her bow, handing it to her while patting her shoulder with his scomp.

"I'm a trained ARC Trooper, kid. I know I look old, but I still got a few tricks up my sleeve."

Omega rolled her eyes playfully, securing her bow on her back. "Am I at least getting better?"

Echo smiled softly. "Of course you are. Remember when you couldn't even hold your bow?"

Omega's face flushed a warm shade of red. "Yeah, but that was a long time ago," she said, walking alongside her brother on the sandy shores of Pabu's empty beach. "Will I ever be as good as you guys?" Her voice was wistful as she recalled her brother's most memorable battlefield moments compared to hers.

"Don't sell yourself short, Omega. You've come a long way. Your skills are improving with every training session." Echo looked down at her with pride. "We're extra hard on you because we want you to be better than we ever were."

Omega grinned, Echo's words already taking full effect on her.

"I'll do my best."

"Atta girl," Echo ruffled her tidy blonde hair, earning him a lighthearted swat.

The two walked up to the courtyard where the rest of the batch mingled. Hunter and Crosshair were deep in conversation as they cleaned their weapons. Wrecker tried to do the same with Tech; however, that remained one sided.

"There she is!" Wrecker exclaimed, leaving Tech who didn't bother glancing up.

Omega broke into a short sprint, clinging to Wrecker as he lifted her into the air.

"How was training, kid?" the brute asked, hauling her onto his left shoulder with ease.

"Echo got me again, but I lasted longer than the time before," the girl recounted.
