Chapter 35 – A haunting of memories.
Marcys Savage
I'm wandering the wilderness again, the trees blurring into nothingness, as I whizz past them with speed inhuman. My monster once again in control, my blood red orbs shining in the stark darkness. The sun took its last drag of the day a long time ago.
The night fallen upon to rule.
A waterfall sounds nearby, and my monster switch direction, whizzing through the trees to reach the cool water calling our name. Our last kill still lingering on our tongue, and our saliva light pink from the blood that dripped down our muzzle as we devoured the large stag. The cool breeze run through our fur, disheveling it roots to make it seem fluffier than it is. The water will do us good and help erase the taste of raw meat and blood that accompany our tastebuds at the moment. The fresh kill will also seem more filling in our stomach with some water.
The hunger still gnawing at us – Inside and out.
Our tongue laps at the water, as we stop before the lake, the waterfall majestic and beautiful, but my monster pay the beauty no mind. Beauty not a concept it understands or appreciate. The ice-cold water fills our mouth, freezing our canines to ice. The almost constant winter in the far North ruling right now and freezing the water. It's a wonder the water hasn't frozen over. The other rivers or lakes we've come across on our journey has been frozen to ice, and the water beneath only found after a task of destroying and breaking the ice surface.
Maybe it's the size of the waterfall that grant it its iceless state, who knows. My monster doesn't give it a second thought though, and only lap at the water, taking what it needs and wants from the lake, like we take everything else we want or need. No concern for other people or their needs – Only we matter. I stare at the reflection in the water, and the blood red eyes stand out in contrast to the darkness that surround them. The fur as dark black as the night sky, and the smoke flowing around the fur, makes it seem even darker and foggier.
My vision limited with the dark night and dark fur.
It blends into nothingness, a bland black nothingness. A nothingness I feel inside, every second, minute, day, week, month and year. All the time – A consuming nothingness. A lost course in a form of a deranged wolf like creature. Calling the monster, a wolf is incorrect and an insult to the wolves and shifters. We are no wolf, just a freak monstrosity.
My ears perk up at the sound of laughter and voices in the distance. Our saliva dripples down our muzzle at the thought of their blood smeared on us, and their screams echoing in our ears.
What a treat we'll have tonight.
My monster practically preens at the thought, and it sets into a sprint in the direction of the washed out and hushed voices, and laughs. The small bonfire they have created can be smelt in the air, and they have chosen to be incredible stupid and think more about fun than survival. The dark night alone should scare them, but the creatures lurking in the blackness should scare them even more, and today that creature is me. That should scare them to death.
Their loud laughter can be heard for miles, and I once again don't know if I should curse them for their reckless stupidity or thank them. My monster will have a feast with the teens enjoying their bonfire. The smell of their burning marshmallows can also be smelt in the crisp night air.
My monster has never tasted marshmallows.
Maybe today it will if the teens aren't enough of a treat, that is. I emerge from the tree lines after watching them joke and laugh for a little while, my monster losing its thin string of patience. The first scream is loud and screeching, the female having a very high pitched and feminine scream that hurt my ears, but my monster relish in it. It's hunger coming back to stake a claim upon us, and I'm forced to witness the slaughter happen right in front of me, with no way of stopping it or intervening in its quest for a fun meal.
