Chapter 31 – Horrors of the past.

Marcys Savage

We entered through the large steel doors, the dimly light in the underground didn't illuminate a lot, and it was mostly dark in the stone cells. Most cells were empty, since the death trial has just taken place, but a few monsters were occupying the cells. The stone bench occupying the cells was hard to the touch and gave no comfort. The floor almost more comfortable to sleep on. Comfort was clearly not a factor down here.

The mostly dark space was overfilled with a sour odor of sweat and blood, the smell burning my nose with its powerful stench. My eyes take in every chink and crack the walls have to present, and I realize I've spent five centuries down here, and never took any notice to the details in this disgusting place. The ground is moist and the smell unpleasant. Infections and fungus growing in every corner of the space.

We come to a stop in front of the third cell, my brother sitting on the bench attached to the stone wall. His head in his hands, as he stares upon the floor, seeming detached. The discomfort he feels is clear in his body language, as he keeps scooting around on the hard surface of the bench. I clear my throat to gain his attention, as it seems like he hasn't taken any notice to our presence. He lifts his head slowly, before settling his gaze on me. He glances at Luka briefly, but otherwise doesn't look away from my piercing stare.

"My dear brother" He says sarcastically, an eyeroll in place. "When I came to see you, I wasn't expecting to end up rotting away down here" He tells me, making me cringe at the unpleasantries he must have encountered down here.

Unpleasantries, I know too well.

I feel bad for him, if I'm honest. I know what it's like being locked away down here. It's not exactly a five-star resort - Couldn't be farther from it.

"I wasn't exactly expecting your arrival, and wasn't prepared for it" I tell him, deciding to be truthful with him.

"But I am sorry you ended up down here" I glance around the disgusting place, and scoff in anger at the treatment he's been receiving, the same I received. Not something to shout hooray for.

He nods slowly, in what seems like understanding. "I'm sorry for taking you off guard, like I did. I just wanted to meet my famous brother I've heard so much about"

"You were told about me?" I ask in bewilderment, still confused that he even knew about my existence, when I had no clue about his.

He shakes his head with a quiet chuckle. "No, but like anyone else, I heard the rumors"

"So, you know I killed our so-called mother?" I question, with an arched eyebrow.

"I heard that specific rumor, yes" He nods, confirming my suspicion. "But I don't care Marcys. Not like I knew her anyway"

"You want us to blindly believe that?" Luka wage in, a stern expression on his face, as he basically stares down my brother.

He shrugs carelessly. "Believe what you want"

"I'm not here on some journey for vengeance or some shit like that. I just want to get to know my brother" He tells us, the truthfulness in his voice not wavering even the slightest. If he lies, then he's a damn good liar.

I nod slowly, processing everything he told us, and allowing it to swirl in my mind, trying and failing to come up with some sort of explanation for his arrival other than what he told me. He could be lying, of course he could, but he seems truthful, and he's right - He never knew our mother. Even though she was his birth mother, he had no connection or attachment to her.

If he had known her, I would have known him, and I have no recollection of him.

"You really don't harvest any ill feeling towards me, even though I killed our mother?" I ask in skepticism, a brow raised in caution.
