Lilith was the first one to make her way to the body. Alecto was still coughing, struggling to breathe as life ebbed from his bloody form. Lilith's heart sank with despair; she could already tell he's about to die. He deserved better.

Alec's body trembled, and he managed to lock eyes with Adam. "I-" He struggled to speak. "I'm s-scared..." The boy let out a small sob. "It wasn't l-like this when I died on Earth..."

Adam did nothing but stare for a second before snapping out of it. "Don't-don't be scared. Being scared is for pussies. And-" He wiped at his eyes furiously, and his voice wavered when he spoke again. "And crying is for pussies too."

Alecto groaned in pain and nodded. "Noted." His gaze shifted to Husker, who looked frozen. Lilith had never seen the bartender this speechless. His amber eyes were wide and scared. Alec gave a pained smile. "F-fuck you, Husker."

Husk looked stunned at that, the fear not completely gone from his face. "What?"

"You never let me try alcohol..." Alecto held up a middle finger from his spot on the floor.

"Jesus Christ. Are fucking kidding me right now?" Husk muttered, watching in disbelief as the boy coughed more blood.

Lilith could do nothing but stare as the sinner managed one more shaky breath, then went limp. He's gone.

"I think I'm going to be sick," Sir Pentious said, bolting out of the room. Everyone else seemed to follow, unable to handle the gruesome sight. Even Lucifer cast Lilith an apologetic look before leaving with a slightly green Charlie in tow.

Why him? Lilith thought, looking at the body, observing the blank expression. The king and queen of Hell, the first man, and his wife, were all in one room. Why was the sinner the one who was shot? Her mind drifted back to the conversation she had had with him. The one where she had told him he was worthless. She regretted it more than anything now. I was angry. I was foolish, taking it out on one of my own people.

Adam was trembling, still leaning over Alec's fallen body. "Why?" He sobbed. "Why does everyone I care about leave?"

Lilith dug her nails into her palms so hard, pain shot up her wrist. "Shut up," she snapped. "I can't believe you."

Adam ignored her, still crying, and that was the last straw for her. Her hand flew out and slapped him across the face. Hard. "Shut up." Adam finally quieted, staring at her with tears running down his face.

"You're not the one who was hurt. Stop making everything about you. A boy was just killed. His entire existence is erased, and you're feeling sorry for yourself?" Lilith shook her head slowly in disbelief. "You may be the first man, but you're not the only one."

"I was close with him!" Adam argued, holding his red cheek like he couldn't believe she had hit him. "Of course I'm... of course I'm fucking grieving and–"

"You don't get to cry." Lilith's eyes flashed. "The therapist has known him for longer. Do you see her making it all about herself?"

Adam flinched like a child being scolded by their parent. "No, but–"

"The bartender! The two of them are close, but is he sobbing and having the audacity to think that this impacted only him?" Husker, who was still there, looked surprised, as if he didn't expect Lilith to have noticed that he had taken a liking to Alecto. He frowned slightly and left the room, his eyes hesitantly leaving Alec's body.

Adam looked around for help, finding only Eve in the room, staring at the two of them silently. A single tear stained her cheeks and she didn't even react when Adam grabbed her wrist.
