Lucas, who had taken Leila to a nearby balcony, knelt down after seating her in a chair.

“Excuse me for a moment.”

He then gently grasped her ankle. Carefully removing her shoes, he clicked his tongue upon seeing the redness on her feet.

“It seems the heels were too high.”

“…I think I’ll be fine if I rest for a bit.”

“Or I could call the palace physician to have you examined.”

“No, there’s no need for that.”

Leila declined with an embarrassed expression. While her feet did hurt, she was more desperate to get away from the crowded ballroom and take a breather.

“Alright. Let me know if it gets too uncomfortable.”

“…Okay, I will.”

Lucas’s tender response made Leila feel strange. He had always looked out for her, but relying on him amidst the unfamiliar crowd was a new sensation.

After removing both her shoes, he placed her feet on his lap and began to massage them.

“Oh, you don’t need to do that!”

“My father used to do this for my mother often. That’s why she always wore high heels to balls.”

Leila listened intently to his words, tinged with laughter. They had talked about many things, but she seldom heard about his family.

“To be honest, I never thought I’d meet someone I’d want to do this for my entire life.”

For the first time, Lucas opened up about his inner thoughts. Perhaps it was because he had felt the suffocating stares again after so long, but for some reason, Leila had felt comfortable from the start.

“You might not remember, but I told you before.”

“…About what?”

“I told you I didn’t mind that you’re blind. No, in truth, I welcome it. Would you despise me if I said that?”

Leila recalled the words she had heard as if in a dream a few nights ago. She had thought it was a mere illusion, but it wasn’t.

He looked up at her surprised face and continued.

“I told you not to care about others’ opinions, but the one who cared the most was none other than me. I had to wear the mask they wanted me to wear.”

As he spoke, he gently massaged her ankle with one hand, continuing.

“So honestly, when you said you were blind… I felt a strange sense of liberation.”

“…Liberation?”

“Yes, a woman who cannot see me, who plays the music I love, and who is a perfect match for an alpha like me. How could I possibly reject you?”

Leila tried to comprehend the meaning behind his words, but her mind wasn’t functioning well. She felt incredibly strange. Her heart was fluttering, and she couldn’t find the words to respond.

“You are the perfect omega that God has given me.”

Lucas felt elated, knowing he had declared her as his own to everyone. He wanted to solidify this further. Even though people might express disbelief, they couldn’t deny her outward appearance.
