“But won’t they make a fuss if they find out we took the corpse?”

“Body? It’s rude to call someone who isn’t even dead yet a corpse.”

“She’s practically dead, though.”

“How do you survive with that brain of yours? We have to save her, of course.”

One of the mercenaries carrying Leila on his shoulder spoke, prompting the other mercenary to ask in surprise.

“How do we save her?”

“Wow, look at this blockhead.”

“Hey, I told you not to call me a blockhead!”

“You keep doing blockhead stuff, so what else should I call you?”

“How are we supposed to save her when she’s already taken the poison!”

The two mercenaries stopped walking and raised their voices, unaware that someone was approaching from behind.

“If there’s poison, there must be an antidote, right?”

“You’re the blockhead! Velvet shadow spider venom is famous for not having an antidote, you idiot!”

“Shxt, really… Ah! Damn it, what the hell?”

The mercenary carrying Leila yelled in surprise as he felt a force slam into his side. Startled by the dark, eerie mountain path, the two mercenaries let out involuntary screams.

Anna, having rammed into the mercenary, caused him to drop Leila. She quickly wrapped her body around the falling sack, rolling several times and groaning in pain as she lifted her head.

Realizing it was a girl who had attacked them, the two mercenaries drew their swords with heavy breaths.

“You’re not supposed to scare people like that.”

“Don’t know where you came from, but we can sell you too.”

The two mercenaries approached Anna without hesitation, intending to sell her like Leila. Threatening her with their swords, they failed to notice the silent figures approaching them.

“Haha, what luck! We got two of them!”

“Who cares if I’m called a blockhead, as long as we get the job done!”

One of them roughly grabbed the back of Anna’s neck, but she clung to Leila’s body and screamed.

“Count! Count!”

She hoped her voice would carry far enough for Jonas to hear. Tears streamed down her face as she realized the person in the sack was indeed her lady.

She understood why Leila had ended up in this state without needing to ask. Knowing Leila’s intent to shoulder everything alone and leave, Anna couldn’t accept it. Despite knowing it was beyond her means, Leila was like family to Anna.

Even as the mercenaries kicked her mercilessly, she refused to let go of Leila and continued to cry out.

“Please, save my lady!”

“This is bad, isn’t it?”

One of the mercenaries stopped kicking Anna, sensing the gravity of the situation. At the same moment, the sharp sound of wind cutting horizontally was heard.

“Huh?”

One of the mercenaries clutched his neck and fell as a spray of blood gushed out.

“Ahhh!”
