It had been two weeks since the entrance exam. Your mother was not cutting you any slack. Every morning that you would wake up she would mock your "sorry attempt" at trying to get into UA. Occasionally this would follow with a few slaps, depending on her mood, usually targeted at your back. You had gotten used to it by now, her taking her anger out on you for your father's passing.
This morning was no different. You woke up, brushed your teeth with assistance from your shadowy tendrils, brushed your hair, and changed. You usually wore hoodies with holes in the back to accommodate your wings. Your hoodies gave you a sense of cover, feeling like when you wore them it would help block out the miserableness that was your home.
As you walked down your staircase to grab something to eat, you flipped your hood up, using it as a shield for your mother's future depreciation. But it never came. You walked down the stairs and were met with an eerie silence. You looked up from your feet, which you typically stared at when you walked to your kitchen. Your mother was standing at the sink, her back turned to you for only a moment. She met your gaze and pointed to the counter, where an oddly shaped, silver piece of technology was sitting. She didn't say anything. You furrowed your eyebrows in suspicion. Why was your mother acting so weird?
As you approached the device, you touched it, trying to figure out what it was. All of the sudden, a holographic image of All Might appeared, causing you to flinch backwards.
"Young Tanaki, I am pleased to announce your entrance exam scores! You took down a total of 6 robots, leaving you with a point total of 10 points."
You winced at the words, not happy with how many points you received from battling the robots.
"However!" The loud voice boomed. "That was not the only point system in the exam!"
Your eyes shot to the hologram, hope and surprise lacing your eyes.
"Your heroic save of the young, pink girl did not go unnoticed!" He announced. "Because of your heroic acts, you were granted with another 70 points! You risked your own chance of getting into a prestigious school, to help a fellow contender. This is what being a hero is about! Your heroism was wildly commended, and because of this, you have been accepted into UA! You will begin your studies next Monday. Congratulations, young Tanaki!"
You stared at the space where All Might was projected moments before, your jaw slacked open in shock.
There's no way...
"I did it! I fucking did it!" You shouted, forgetting your mother was just a few feet away. However, she remained silent, not disciplining you for your use of foul language. After a moment, you stopped your cheers and turned to her. She was unmoving and unwilling to say anything as the dozed off into the distance.
"Mom..?" You asked silently.
She slowly turned toward you, a mixture of sadness and confliction in her eyes.
