Afterlife: Shika

"Shika," Tatsuko sang. "Do you have any new contenders for me?"

She was at her desk, placing her hands under her chin as she smiled at me. I was in her office sitting on her couch, still reading on Suguru's life. Jujutsu sorcerers over the years have gotten weak. A vessel dies in front of you, and one goes down a trail of insanity. At least in my era, sorcerers knew what they were doing. They didn't break down so easily.

"No." I stated responding to Tatsuko but not looking away from the book. "Majority of the people who died aren't fighters. And they aren't sorcerers. They won't fight for you."

"Mmmm, what about Toji Fushiguro? He's a fighter." Tatsuko said.

I let my shoulders fall as I looked at Tatsuko. Her wings spread as she smiled at me. She was glad to have my full attention.

"A kid named Satoru Gojo killed him right. No surprise there. But what is a surprise is that Toji nearly killed Satoru Gojo and this Suguru Geto. Also, your friends Riko and Kuroi are here because of him." Tatsuko pouted with a tease.

"They are not my friends."

"And yet they adore you. You take in so many souls when they get here. You might as well be friends with everyone. I'm asking for a simple favor, Shika. Get Toji to fight for me. Or your friends will."

Tatsuko smiled as she tapped down a stack of papers and looked at me. She was trying to threaten me with the people I hung out with, but I didn't care for them, and she wasn't threatening at all. People in power had a bad habit of hiring people more powerful than them. Sure, money can get you somewhere, but raw strength with technique and cursed energy could beat that any day. I threw the book over my shoulder, letting it disappear. I was bored from reading, so I might as well entertain her idea.

"Fine, I'll have your new fighter by the end of the week." I said, getting to my feet.

"Yay. I knew I could count on you." Tatsuko smiled.

I said nothing, leaving the office. Kuroi and Riko arrived at the same terminal, and then the person who sent them here died soon after. It was the only reason I got to know the three of them. Unfortunately, upon getting to know them, I also ended up meeting Yu. And among the four of them, he was the most annoying.

"Miss Shika!" Yu yelled the moment I left the building.

There it is. The only reason he's annoying is because he was too kind.

I turned my head to the left, looking at him as he made his way over to me. He smiled, waving in my direction.

"You're always outside of this building. You're okay, right? Though if it's personal, I won't pry." He smiled.

I tilted my head. "No, it's alright." I stated, pulling out my phone. "Where's Toji?"

"At your place."

Perfect. Let's get this over with.

I texted Otoha about what I discorved about Geto being friends with Gojo. She replied immedeialtly saying she wanted to meet me. I expecteed her at my place in a matter of seconds.

"Let's head home it's getting dark." I stated putting my phone away.

Yu nodded, and he stood beside me as we walked. Nighttime in the summer was never a good time to be out in the afterlife. Because there were barely any curses killing people, curse users here liked to spice things up. Only the dead can kill the dead it's not possible for the living. And curse users liked that concept.
