Life 2005: Suguru
"Let's make this clear," Akuma stated.
Akuma was one of the teachers at Kyoto High. Her hair was black and was short. Her eyes had a deep shade of yellow, almost rusted gold. She had no technique but was a master with cursed tools. Our teacher couldn't be here, but she was here to inform the twelve of us of our mission and ensure it went as smoothly as possible. Akuma was at the end of the aisle on the plane, talking to us to ensure we all heard. Besides us, no one else was on the plane. Usually, missions weren't so secretive. Sure, we didn't inform non-sorcerers that curses existed, but being this secretive worried me. I looked around as Akuma spoke. I was the closest to Akuma, sitting in the aisle seat. Toya was to my left, and to his left was Shoko, who was sound asleep. Behind us was Takara, and to her left was Shoichi. The middle seat for them was empty. Behind them was Utahime, sitting next to Mei Mei. To my right across the aisle was Gojo, and to his right was Viva. The window seat in their row was empty. Behing them was Eisuke and Lieko. And Vanji was as far back as possible. Vanji, Toya, Eisuke, Lieko, Shoichi, Takara, and Viva were all from Kyoto High. Oldest to youngest in that order. The others were from Tokyo High, like me. But since it had only been a week, I wasn't friends with any of them. I just knew them, and from what I learned about them, I didn't like them. Especially not Gojo. He was a cocky student who said and did whatever he wanted for one reason. He was a special-grade sorcerer. I was also in special grade but wasn't acting like an arrogant brat. What gave him the right to do that?
"Suguru?" Akuma said, snapping me out of my train of thought. "This mission requires your full attention. A curse user known for selling certain items on the black market has crossed the line. They have a curse technique that's quite frightening. The ability to start or stop another's innate technique."
That explained why there were so many of us. Back up. If one of us fell victim to this technique, we'd still have other ways to bring them down. But to be able to control the activation of someone's technique. That wasn't very comforting. I glanced at Gojo, who was busy being himself. He could not stand to take this seriously, especially when the person we were after had a dangerous technique.
"Imbeciles," I said, only to hear Takara mimic my words behind me.
I glanced behind me, seeing Takara look past her white opaque shades at me. She was the same age as Gojo, but she had to deal with Viva like I had to deal with Gojo. The look we gave one another was the same. Pure annoyance.
"We bring this curse user in, but it's too risky. Kill them at all costs." Akuma said.
The plane fell silent as all twelve of us looked at her. Kill them. I hadn't been at Jujutsu High for a month, and I was already ordered to kill someone.
"Jujutsu society doesn't take any chances, huh?" Toya chuckled. I looked at him as he continued. "I mean, come on. That seems like a useful technique, but negotiation isn't an option," he stated.
"With an innate technique like that, we can't risk it. Imagine if they got their hands on someone like Satoru." Takara stated.
"Some curse users can't touch me," Gojo said.
I glared at him. "Don't get cocky. If you could handle this alone, we wouldn't be here." I spoke.
"Oh, would you relax? We're both special grades. Surely you know this is going to be easy."
"Being a special grade doesn't mean shit," Vanji said.
We all turned in our seats to look at her. Vanji was the oldest in both schools. She was a fourth year who knew how to handle herself, yet she was only a grade-three sorcerer. Her grade level was weaker than ours, but that didn't make me judge her-at least not yet.
