Afterlife: Shika

Couldn't speak to any of the others. I didn't wish to worry or inform them that Suguru was a curse user. As far as I knew, they weren't aware. I would inform Juri, but in reality, this was none of her concern. I didn't want her involved. I didn't want any of them involved. There was a knock on my office door, causing me to raise my head.

"Come in." I stated.

The door opened, and Toji entered the room. He looked at me before speaking. "So, this is where you've been. Yu pointed out that you weren't at training this morning."

I shrugged. "Been busy."

"You alright?" He asked.

"I appreciate the concern, but I'm fine." I replied.

Toji looked through the shelf, stopping on one of the books. I glanced at him before leaning over my desk. Toji was a gun for hire. It didn't matter if he knew the person or not. He was the first to do something for the right price. I didn't want the others involved, but Toji had dealt with Suguru before, so getting him involved wasn't an issue for me.

"Toji?" I asked.

He looked at me before smirking slightly. "I know that look. You want something."

"Care to do some scouting with me and potentially killing?" I questioned.

Toji rubbed the back of his neck before putting the book he had placed back on the shelf. "I'm intrigued by the scouting, but my killing days are over. Even in the afterlife."

I hadn't seen the look in his eyes before. That of soften mischief. Like a soldier who wished nothing more than to be with the ones they loved but wouldn't hesitate to kill for them. He was abiding by someone's image of him. Someone he didn't want to disappoint.

I got to my feet. "For the sake of the one you love, you don't have to kill anyone. But it would be appreciated if you came with."

Toji looked at me, his expression neutral before he let out a short chuckled. "You're much more than you let on. Where do we start."

For nearly three months, I had been keeping an eye on Raizo's mother. She didn't leave the village often, but the times she did, she visited Kyushu. A distance away from Shibuya. The majority of the people in the tournament lived near the colosseum that was in Tokyo, so I could only guess that whoever they were seeing wasn't part of the competition.

"What's over here?" Toji asked.

"Just a normal town. Certain stores, if they have been abandoned in the living world, are usually converted in the afterlife. This place has some abandoned places, so I can guess there's things here that are out of the ordinary." I replied. I pointed off in the distance as Raizo's mother was walking down the street. "We follow her."

Toji nodded as he followed my lead. Raizo's mother died at the age of twenty-nine. Like Juri, she roamed the afterlife with her appearance of when she gave birth to Raizo at the age of twenty-three. I could probably assume that, like Juri, she cared deeply for her son. Her name was Hisa. At first, I had been looking into the entire village, but the only person who was acting suspicious was Hisa. She walked through the town, not making eye contact with anyone or even getting near them. She avoided contact with anyone as much as possible. She stopped at salon up north less than a mile from the Sea of Japan. She was far too observant for us to watch here, even from across the street. Staying far away was the best option. I reach over my shoulder, pulling out a fly head. Low-level curses that couldn't do much damage.

I glared at the fly head, giving it an order. Telling it to follow Hisa and to alert me if anything happened. The fly head flew away before turning invisible the closer it got to Hisa.
