{Ingenious in Motion}
Los Angeles, California
August 1, 1981River was back in town for work. She didn't mind because it was a chance to see her family. When she wasn't busy she would work at her parent's dance studio. It was like her second home. Anytime she had a show in LA she would practice at the studio. Her favorite part was teaching the students. She had a small dance troop called the All Stars that she would take around the city to perform. The children loved learning the different dance styles and it was an opportunity to get them out of their neighborhoods.
"Good job you guys! Make sure you practice at home for the showcase."' River said. She finished class for the day and the students were dismissed. As they left she packed her things.
"There goes our little superstar." River heard her mother's voice as her parents came into the room.
"Hi, mom. Hi Dad." River smiled hugging both of them.
"It's good that you're home to visit. You know I get worried with my little girl in New York." Curtis was overprotective of his two daughters. He loved them more than anything.
"Daddy I promise I'm okay."
"We miss you so much, baby."
Sheree said. "We understand that you're focused on your career and we're so proud of you. You're doing amazing.""I'm trying to live up to your legacy." It meant the world to her that her parents thought she was doing good.
"You're making your own." Her father kissed her cheek. "We won't keep you too long we know you're busy."
"Baby don't push yourself too hard. Remember to enjoy your life as well. Maybe find yourself a partner." Sheree loved her daughter's work ethic. She knew it was important to have a balance between work and personal life.
"Mommy" River sighed.
"I know you're an adult I'm looking out for your best interest. Take time to have some fun and get to know people."
"I'll keep that in mind. I'll see you both later." She picked up her bag hugging her parents one last time before she left the room. Her sister was taking a Hip-Hop class in one of the other practice rooms. She thought it would be good to check in on her. As she made her way there she saw that the students were leaving which meant class had ended.
"Hey Autumn" Athena called. "Can I talk to you before you leave?
"Sure" Autumn picked up her duffle bag making her way towards Athena.
"You impressed me today."
"Really? Me?" Autumn asked surprised.
"You have the potential to go very far if this is something that you want."
"I mean I do but....." Autumn looked down as she trailed off.
"But?" Athena waited for her to continue.
"I don't know do you think I'm that good? You've seen my family there like dance royalty. I'm the only one in my family that doesn't do ballroom." Autumn explained. She wasn't against ballroom because it was what her family was known for. She wanted to do something different. "People expect me to be like them."
"You can choose your path Autumn. If Ballroom isn't your passion that is okay. Do what makes you feel happy. I know your family will support you."
"But I'll never be like River. She's the youngest pro to be on Dancing With the Stars. And she's won national and international competitions since she was little." Autumn shook her head. "She's the best in the world. How am I supposed to live up to that."
