Jenna's heart raced, her flashlight trembling in her hand as the footsteps grew louder, echoing through the decaying factory walls. She and Alex froze, rooted to the spot as if trapped in the gaze of something they couldn't see. The darkness beyond them seemed to ripple, like something—or someone—was watching from just outside the beam of light.

"Go," Alex hissed, his voice barely above a whisper. "Now."

Jenna didn't need convincing. She spun toward the darkened doorway at the far end of the room and bolted, Alex right on her heels. They sprinted across the debris-strewn floor, their shoes scraping over broken glass and rusted metal, the sound of their movement almost drowned out by the ominous footsteps behind them, matching their pace.

As they reached the doorway, Jenna glanced over her shoulder, the beam of her flashlight casting fleeting glimpses of the empty room behind them. But it wasn't empty. The footsteps were there, louder now, relentless—and yet there was no one in sight.

They rushed through the doorway into a narrow corridor, the air here even colder, as if the very walls were holding secrets. Jenna's pulse thudded in her ears, the panic rising. Whoever—or whatever—was following them was playing a dangerous game, staying just out of sight.

"Where do we go?" Jenna gasped, her breath fogging in the chill. The corridor split ahead of them into two paths, both equally foreboding.

Alex hesitated for a second, then pointed to the right. "That way—there's a storage area ahead. Maybe we can lose them there."

Without arguing, Jenna followed, her flashlight flickering weakly as they darted down the corridor. The storage area was a cavernous room lined with old, rusted shelving units, piles of forgotten crates and tools cluttering the space. They weaved between the shelves, trying to stay low and hidden.

The footsteps had stopped.

Jenna and Alex crouched behind a stack of crates, straining to listen. Silence. The heavy, oppressive silence that made every creak and groan of the old factory seem magnified. Jenna's heart thudded in her chest. Was their pursuer still out there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike?

"I don't think we're alone," Alex whispered, his eyes scanning the room. "Whatever that was, it knows we're here."

Jenna's grip tightened on the flashlight, the beam sweeping through the darkness. They were being hunted. But by what, or by whom, she still didn't know—and the thought was enough to make her blood run cold.
