Sarah's POV)
Beep.....Beep.....Beep.....Beep...
I woke up to an annoying sound, coming from the machine next to me.
" Shut up." I snapped, looking at the machine.
Annoyed because it wouldn't stop, I grabbed my pillow from under me and threw it at the machine, causing a lot of noise considering I knocked it down. Suddenly a nurse came running in, and noticed that I was awake, and next to me was the annoying machine. She laughed and walked over, setting the machine back up.
" I know, this machine annoys me too but please try and not to knock it down again, it helps us show your heart beat, and other important things." The nurse said, giving me a small smile.
As soon as she set the machine back up, she handed me my pillow, which I shoved on my face trying to block out the sound.
" How are you feeling, dear? You've been out for a while." The nurse asked, handing me a cup of water.
I gave her a confused look and took the drink. Feeling the water down my throat made me realize how thirsty I was. I drank the entire cup, and had her refill it.
" You were out for three days. When you fell and hit your head, you cracked it open and had to get stitches." The nurse pointed out, showing me the stitches on the left side of my head.
I flinched when I touched the stitches, and was glad that my hair at least covered it.
" So you were rushed here, and you were asleep for three days. Your friends were here every night, but last night they were told to go home, by some guy named Simon?" The nurse said, frowning.
Crap, out for three days? Probably scared the crap out of Jane and..... Miley.. The memories came back from that night and tears suddenly came into my eyes. The nurse frowned and sat on my bed, pulling me into a hug, which I would normally say is weird but right now I needed a hug.
" I heard about your friend, and when they brought you in, I wanted to be the one assigned to you. I knew that if I did everything I could, your friends wouldn't lose you like they lost your friend." The nurse said, as I cried into her chest.
It felt nice, hugging the person who was so determined to keep me alive, and knew what happened. After I was done crying, I got a closer look at her name tag. Sandra.
" Let's get you cleaned up, yeah?" Sandra said, helping me out of bed.
I agreed and slowly got out of bed. My hair felt disgusting, and I felt gross just in general. The second I stood up, pain rushed to my head, causing me to stumble back.
" Take it easy, dear. Every time you stand up, you are going to feel that so it's best to take it slowly." Sandra said, holding me under my arms so I wouldn't fall.
Slowly, step by step, I finally made it to the bathroom. Sandra had to help me shower, and shave but I didn't care. I trusted Sandra and let her help me since I could barely do anything but walk. Once the shower was done, and I was shaved and clean. She put me in a towel first and let me brush my own teeth. Sandra then brought me clean undergarments, Gray fuzzy pants, a white tank top, and white socks. She helped me get dressed, than sat me on the bed and softly brushed a comb through my hair. The entire time, I thought about how this is what is should have been like for me as a child. A mother who brushes her daughters hair after a bath, one that hugs her daughter when she cries, and helps her when she needs help. Sandra braided my long brown hair, then tied it at the end before putting the hairbrush back into the bathroom.
" Are you hungry, dear? I could go get you something small?" Sandra asked.
My stomach growled at the thought of food and I nodded.
" Alright, I'll go get you something, but in the mean time Doctor Gem will talk to you." Sandra said as another lady came into the room.
I nodded and Sandra walked out as Doctor Gem, set her clip board down then sat in the rolling stool.
" How are you feeling, Sarah?" Doctor Gem asked.
I frowned and pointed to the marker and whiteboard at the table. She grabbed them, handing them to me so I could write it out. I wrote on the sign then turned it around so she could read it.
" If I open my mouth, it makes my head hurt and it feels like I'm going to barf.".
Doctor Gem nodded and wrote a few things on her paper, then turned to me.
" Alright, well we can give you head pills to calm down the head ache, and the nausea is probably because you haven't eaten in three days. You'll need to drink a lot of water, but for now you can use the white board to talk to people." Doctor Gem said, handing me another cup of water.
I took a drink, when Sandra walked in with a piece of toast and apple sauce. I took the tray and slowly chew the toast, feeling the nice feeling of food once again in my skinny belly. It didn't take long till the food was gone and the doctor began asking questions again. Some about Sandra, even when she was standing there.
" How is Sandra treating you, Sarah?" Doctor Gem asked.
I smiled and wrote on the board quickly, then turned it around.
" She is doing a great job. When she helped me, it felt like she was being a mother I never had.".
Sandra smiled at the comment but the doctor frowned.
" What do you mean by a mother you never had? Did something happen to your mom?" She asked.
I shook my head and wrote on the board.
" We were never close, she shut me and my brother out after my father died when I was little.".
The doctor nodded, and Sandra looked like she was going to cry, but hid it. After a few minutes of silence the doctor stood up.
"I think it's time to call your brother and close friends, yeah?" She said, making me smile.
