It was another Friday evening, and Mono and Six had just finished another week of school. As usual, they met up after class, backpacks slung over their shoulders as they wandered aimlessly around the neighborhood. The air was cool, the streetlights flickering on as the sun dipped below the horizon.

"So, what now?" Six asked, hands tucked in her hoodie pockets. She glanced up at Mono—way up, thanks to his annoying height. He was practically towering over her, and she hated how it made her feel like a little kid. Not that she'd ever admit it.

Mono shrugged, looking down at her with a teasing smirk. "You hungry?"

A glint of excitement sparked in Six's eyes as she replied. "Hell yeah I am!"

"Aren't you always?" Mono laughed.

"Fair point," Six rolled her eyes. "But seriously, I could eat."

The two of them found their way to the local diner, a cozy little spot that had become their go-to hangout. It wasn't anything fancy—just some burgers, fries, and milkshakes—but that's exactly what made it perfect. Mono pushed open the door, and the familiar jingle of the bell above greeted them as they stepped inside. They slid into a booth near the window, their usual spot.

Six eyed the menu lazily, though she already knew what she wanted. "You're getting the same thing again, right?" she asked Mono, already anticipating his order.

"Yep," Mono replied, not even bothering to look at the menu. "Burger, extra fries, and a chocolate shake."

Six smirked, shaking her head. "Predictable."

Once they ordered, the two settled into their usual routine—light banter, stealing fries from each other's plates, and joking about everything from school to the weird things they'd seen around town. There was always something to laugh about, even if it was just Mono poking fun at Six for being too short to reach something on a high shelf.

After they polished off their food, Six leaned back in her seat, feeling that comfortable post-meal laziness settle in. But she wasn't ready to head home just yet. "Wanna do something?" she asked, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Mono raised an eyebrow. "Like what?"

Six didn't know exactly. She just knew she wasn't in the mood for calling it a night. "I dunno. Let's go... explore or something. There's gotta be something cool around here we haven't seen."

Mono chuckled, pushing up from the booth. "Alright, let's see what kind of trouble we can get into."

The two of them headed out into the night, the neon lights of the diner casting long shadows behind them as they wandered through the quiet streets. As they walked, Six kept her usual quick pace, while Mono—thanks to his longer stride—easily kept up. He had to admit, as much as he loved teasing her, he respected how fearless she was, always wanting to explore, to find something new.

After a while, they found themselves near the edge of town, where the streetlights started to thin out and the streets were lined with old, run-down buildings. It wasn't exactly dangerous, but it definitely had an air of mystery to it.

Six's eyes gleamed as she spotted a dark alley leading off the main street. "Let's check that out," she said, already heading toward it.

Mono hesitated for a second. "You sure? Looks kinda sketchy."

Six shot him a smirk over her shoulder. "Scared, Mono?"

He huffed, rolling his eyes. "You wish."

They ventured into the alley, the sound of their footsteps echoing off the walls. Six led the way, her small frame slipping easily between obstacles while Mono had to duck under low-hanging pipes and wires. Despite the initial eerie feeling, there was something exciting about exploring together—like they were kids again, sneaking around on some forbidden adventure.

At the end of the alley, they stumbled upon a hidden courtyard, overgrown with vines and scattered with old junk. An abandoned fountain sat in the middle, cracked and dry, but in the dim light, it almost looked magical.

"Whoa," Six whispered, stepping forward to take it all in. "How did we never find this before?"

Mono walked up beside her, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Guess we never looked in the right places."

Six crouched down, picking up a small stone and tossing it into the empty fountain. "It's kinda cool, right? Like, I bet no one else knows about this place."

Mono nodded, his tall figure towering beside her as he looked around. "Yeah. It's like our own little secret spot."

For a moment, they both stood there, just taking in the stillness of the courtyard. Six leaned against the edge of the fountain, looking up at Mono. "You know... I'm glad you're here," she said quietly, her voice almost lost in the night air.

Mono glanced down at her, surprised by the sudden softness in her tone. "Yeah?"

She nodded, a small, almost shy smile crossing her face. "I mean, it's... nice. Having someone who gets it."

Mono's heart skipped a beat, caught off guard by how genuine she sounded. Six wasn't one to get all sentimental, so hearing her say something like that felt... different. "I'm glad too," he said softly, looking at her with that same rare openness.

For a second, it almost felt like something was shifting between them, like the usual banter and teasing was giving way to something deeper. But then, in true Six fashion, she shook it off, standing up and giving Mono a playful nudge. "Alright, enough sappy stuff. Let's see if we can find a way up to the roof or something."

Mono laughed, grateful for the return to their usual energy. "Race you to the top?"

Six grinned, and before he could even count to three, she took off running toward a rusty fire escape. "Cheater!" Mono called after her, chasing her up the stairs as their laughter echoed through the empty alleyway.

They eventually made it to the roof, breathless and grinning as they looked out over the quiet town below. The stars twinkled overhead, and for a moment, everything felt perfect—just the two of them, hanging out, having fun, and being kids again.

Six glanced at Mono, who was sitting beside her with his legs dangling off the edge of the roof. "You know... this wasn't such a bad idea," Mono admitted, nudging her with his elbow.

Six smiled, her eyes catching the faint glow of the moonlight. "Told you so."

And just like that, the playful teasing was back, but underneath it all, there was a warmth—an unspoken understanding between them. They didn't need to say it out loud, but both of them knew they'd found something special in each other.
