It was finally October, and the chill in the air meant only one thing: Halloween was right around the corner. Mono loved the whole spooky vibe that came with the season, the eerie decorations, and the excuse to stay up late watching horror movies. Six, on the other hand, was indifferent to the holiday but couldn't deny that she liked candy, and the idea of playing pranks on people was right up her alley.

It was a Friday, and school had just let out for the weekend. Mono and Six walked out of the building, bundled in their jackets, the wind sending colorful autumn leaves swirling around them. The neighborhood was already decorated—fake spider webs, skeletons, and glowing pumpkins were everywhere. They had been talking about what to do for Halloween all week, but the plan hadn't come together yet.

"So... what's the move?" Mono asked, looking down at Six, who was practically hidden beneath her oversized hoodie.

Six kicked a stray leaf, her hood pulled low over her eyes. "Depends. Do you wanna do something spooky or just raid every house for candy?"

"Why not both?" Mono suggested, grinning. "We could prank people while we're at it."

Six gave him a sideways glance. "Pranking people sounds fun, but you know I'm not dressing up, right?"

Mono chuckled. "Yeah, I figured. But you have to do something Halloween-y."

Six thought for a moment. "I'll throw eggs at someone's house."

Mono shook his head, though he couldn't help but laugh. "That's... one way to get into the spirit, I guess."

Later that evening, they met up at Mono's house. His parents were, once again, working late, so the duo had the place to themselves. Mono had done his best to make the house look spooky—fake cobwebs draped over furniture, dim lighting, and a pumpkin in the corner that he'd attempted to carve. It was... a disaster, but it was the thought that counted.

"You really went all out, huh?" Six said as she walked in, taking in the decorations with a raised eyebrow.

"Hey, it's Halloween! Gotta make it feel creepy," Mono defended, gesturing to his pumpkin, which looked more like a sad, lopsided face.

Six walked over to it, inspecting the mess of a carving. "This is... horrific."

"I know, right?" Mono said proudly, completely missing her sarcasm.

Six rolled her eyes, but a small smile tugged at her lips. "So, what's the plan?"

Mono leaned against the couch, rubbing his hands together in mock-evil fashion. "We're gonna get some candy, then we're gonna scare the life out of the neighborhood kids."

Six tilted her head. "You're really into this, huh?"

"I've been planning this since the start of October," Mono replied with a grin. "I even have a mask."

He pulled out a cheap, plastic mask that was meant to look like some kind of monster, but it was more goofy than scary. Still, the enthusiasm on Mono's face was enough to make Six smirk.

"Fine. I'll join in," Six said. "But no mask for me."

Mono shrugged, satisfied with her cooperation. "Deal."

After loading up on some candy from the nearby houses—Six mainly using Mono's height advantage to reach the good stuff in higher bowls—the real fun began. They set up their base camp at Mono's house and watched through the windows as trick-or-treaters made their rounds. Mono was practically bouncing with excitement, waiting for the perfect moment to spring into action.

"Okay, here's the plan," Mono said, peeking out from behind the curtain. "I'm gonna jump out and scare them when they get close. You... just be you. You're already scary enough."

Six shot him a glare, then smirked. "You're not wrong."

The first group of kids approached the house, their laughter echoing in the street as they admired the decorations. Mono, dressed in his goofy monster mask, crouched behind the bush, ready to pounce. Six, hiding her smirk, stayed by the door, leaning casually against the wall.

As the kids reached for the candy bowl on the porch, Mono jumped out from behind the bush with a loud, "BOO!"

The kids screamed, one of them nearly dropping their candy bucket, and bolted down the driveway without a second thought. Six watched the whole scene with amusement, a rare giggle escaping her lips.

"Did you see that?!" Mono laughed, pulling off his mask. "They ran so fast!"

Six shook her head, though she was clearly entertained. "You're a menace."

"And you love it," Mono said, grinning as he leaned against the porch railing.

Six snorted. "Sure."

After an hour of scaring kids and racking up more candy than they knew what to do with, the two finally retreated back inside. Mono sprawled out on the couch, dumping his candy on the coffee table, while Six sat beside him, picking through her haul for anything chocolate.

As they sat there, the atmosphere relaxed. The excitement of the night faded into a comfortable quiet, with only the sound of crinkling wrappers filling the room. Mono eventually looked over at Six, who was busy unwrapping another piece of chocolate.

"You know," he started, his voice softer now, "I didn't think you'd be into Halloween."

Six shrugged, not looking up. "I'm not, really. But... it's fun with you."

Mono smiled at that, knowing how rare it was for her to admit anything even remotely sentimental. "Well, I'm glad you stuck around."

Six gave him a quick glance, then threw a piece of candy at him. "Don't get sappy."

"Too late," Mono said, laughing as he threw it back.

They spent the rest of the evening watching a random horror movie that was more funny than scary, throwing popcorn at the screen whenever the characters made dumb decisions, and just enjoying each other's company. It was moments like these—filled with laughter and playfulness—that reminded them why they were best friends.

As the credits rolled, Six glanced over at Mono, who had fallen half-asleep on the couch, his mask still hanging loosely from his hand. She smiled softly, shaking her head. Even on Halloween, he couldn't help but go all out.

"Happy Halloween, you idiot," she whispered, before settling in beside him, content to just enjoy the quiet of the spooky night.
