The sun is warm. The heat rages against my skin and my only solace is the cold, salty, water licking at my ankles. Gently the waves wash back out to the depths before surging forward with their white foamy peaks to crash along the ivory sand. Everyone is silent. Not a single word uttered as I slowly creep up on the crab resting wistfully along the shore. I crouch down and zoom my camera in from a distance, close enough to get a clear shot but far enough away to run if it decides chasing me would be more entertaining than whatever crabs like to do in their free time. It reaches up and wipes the sand off its black beady eyes, its small mouth moving around rapidly as it finishes off whatever meal is must have caught and eaten.
I take a deep breath and let my camera snap several times. The clocking of the shutter causes the crab to hesitate for only a moment before it continues its ministrations. My heart is pounding as it slowly creeps closer towards me. Its small legs scuttling on the sand in jerky movements.
I scream as hands clasp around my waist dragging me up from the ground. My camera clatters towards the sand but is snapped to a stop by the strap around my neck. The crab, now just as startled as me, rushes into the sanctity of its ocean home. My feet hit the ground, and I spin around to see Bakugou, his crimson eyes hold an air of mischief I wasn't aware he had. He tongues his cheek as he smiles.
"Too easy," he shrugs and laughs as I smack his muscular arm.
"You are so annoying," I pout. He pulls my hair off my shoulder and tucks it securely behind my ear. His hand slides into mine easily as he walks along the shore pulling me along with him.
"Am I?" he asks, and I nod.
"You are."
"Would someone who is 'so annoying' go out and buy you strawberry shortcake?" he asks with one-handed quotations.
My eyes light up as I turn to face him, "you got me cake?"
"I did. But if I'm so annoying then I'll just let the peanut gallery have it."
"No! No, you're not. Thank you, Bakugou."
Bakugou peeks around us before pulling me towards a more secluded area of the beach, large rocks are scattered along the coast here. Bakugou pulls me down next to him out of sight of anyone else. I lean against him as he sits, eyes scanning the horizon.
Ever since our hike and picnic we've been closer. Hushed conversations, and long nights on the balcony alone. Mina keeps pressing me for details but truthfully nothing has happened and I'm getting sick of it. I want him to make a move and I'm my opinion I've made the immensely clear.
"Bakugou?" I ask gently and he hums out a gentle response, his throat rumbling with the noise, "What... are we doing?"
"Sitting on the beach?" He asks as he peeks down at me. I pull my bottom lip between my teeth nervously.
"No, I mean what are we doing? What do you want from this?"
"Oh," he says softly before taking a long breath.
"Oh," I mimic with a questioning whisper.
"Damm." Bakugou says, his head falling forward, "okay. Yeah. I don't want anything serious. I'm not looking to date or anything. I can back off if that's what you want? Fuck. This looks really messed up now, doesn't it?"
"A little. But don't worry. I'm not looking for a boyfriend or anything. I mean if it happens, cool, but if not, okay. You know?"
He nods slowly as he looks down at me, "I want you. Don't think that I don't. Have since I set my eyes on you. I just.... can't."
