Andrew's POV
I dropped the two packs of noodles on the island, and Anita turned around from the sink on hearing the crunchy thud.
"Just two?" she squeezed her face.
"Uh, are you expecting Deborah?" I asked sarcastically, wondering what the problem was.
"I guess you won't be eating, then, because two packs won't be enough for the both of us."
I scoffed. "I'll excuse your gluttony and inform you that these packs were the last ones in the carton." I went ahead to grab a tumbler from the counter.
"And isn't it your duty to go to the supermarket?"
"Tell that to Mum who didn't leave any money for it."
She groaned in annoyance as she faced the sink and turned on the tap, filling the pot underneath it.
I met her and made to fill up my tumbler.
"Wait your turn." She pushed my hand away, and I pulled at her lion hair.
"Ow!" she exclaimed and immediately scooped water from the pot with her hand and slapped my face with a splash.
"Yikes..." I shut my eyes tight, then blinked a couple times, making sure I could still see. "If I lose both eyes, you're losing one, then we'd become the one-eyed twins."
She chuckled, taking the pot out of the sink, and I had my turn.
"Are there any eggs in the pantry?" she asked after she dropped the pot on the counter.
"Just one." I turned off the tap and took a few gulps of water from my filled glass.
"You better not say we're sharing an egg," she threatened me with a frown.
"We are." I smiled sheepishly.
She then folded her arms across her chest, holding a devilish smirk. "Forfeit the egg, or I don't cook the noodles."
I removed the glass of water out of my face, and scoffed. "Let's both starve, then."
"Okay." She shrugged nonchalantly.
I sighed. "Fine!" I gave her the win, but who said I couldn't steal the egg after?
With an evil smile of victory, she grabbed the pot and proceeded to the gas.
"Wait," I said, and she stopped, then widened her eyes impatiently, "aren't you changing the water?"
"Because?" She made a face.
"You dipped your whole hand in it!" I stated the obvious, and she faked a smile.
"You'll be doing me a huge favour by not eating."
"Ugh... you're disgusting."
"Not as much as your stupid whiny attitude." She continued to the gas, while the beeping sound of my phone pulled me to the island.
I live an unbelievably quiet life when I'm not spending time with my squad or messing around with Deborah, a quiet life with Anita taking up the whole space and seeing to the end that I run mad in frustration, so it wasn't so quiet. Having a deadbeat dad and a too-busy-to-care-to-at-least-drop-some-cash-so-we-don't-starve mum, it had just been I and Anita figuring things out on our own for the most part of our lives. And although we obviously could barely survive as a team, I love her not-to death.
I picked up my phone and opened the text message that had just came in.
Mathias attempted suicide
