Maria's POV
The end of summer welcomed a new session, and I couldn't wait to start my new class in SS2. I've missed my classmates, teachers and having lunch break with my squad.
I stood in front of my mirror table in my school uniform that I loved so much, making sure it gave a good impression for resumption. Not already satisfied, I adjusted the small tie underneath the collar of the long-sleeved, light-blue shirt, so light it seemed like white from a distance. I then smoothened the front of the sleeveless outer dress, a navy green-blue Scottish tartan fabric, the same as the tie, it had a plunging neckline and a pleated knee-length skirt. I smiled, then proceeded to put on my white ankle socks, and black shoes, which I spent my precious time polishing to perfection last night.
Your voice could make the Host of Angels envious. It's that beautiful...
I remembered the note from summer and, hurriedly, I grabbed my school bag from the bed and dashed out of my room to my parents' room. I made sure it was empty before I snuck in.
I found her makeup purse after searching a couple drawers, taking out powder and lip gloss and applying a little of both on my face so no one would notice. If I have a secret admirer, I should look the part. I thought to myself.
Dad's honk reminded me of school. I quickly put the makeup back in its place and ran out of the room.
Mish and Mel were already seated in the back seat by the time I came out, while Dad stood waiting at the driver's side.
"Are you wearing lipstick?" he asked, his eyes filled with judgement.
I tightened the grip on my school bag's strap, scared for my life. "No. It's lip gloss," I paused, contemplating on my next response, "for chapped lips."
"Okay..." He peered at me with skeptical eyes. "Well, get in the car, we're running late."
My eyes widened a bit, shocked that he let it go. I got in the passenger seat, and he entered to start the car.
Mum rushed out of the house the moment Dad turned on the engine.
"Wait! Mel forgot her lunch." She reached the car and passed Mel her lunch box through the window. "Bye, baby." She pecked Mel on the cheek, who then responded with a quick wave and a sad face. The car started moving, and we all waved Mum goodbye.
Resumptions excited me in weird ways I couldn't explain.
WELCOME TO ST JOHN SECONDARY SCHOOL.
I smiled when I saw the large, colourful signboard on the side of the blue school gate. I then looked out the window to the school environment of different shades of blue as Dad drove in.
Every student seemed to have grown a bit, looking sharp in their uniforms, and happy as well. Some students were climbing down from their parent's cars, and some from the blue school bus that had the school's name boldly inscribed on it. Dad parked his car, and we all got out.
"I'll be leaving now, and make sure you all stay together when it's closing time."
If I had a penny for every time he said that, a billionaire I'd be.
"Daddy, I want to follow you," Mel grumbled with puppy eyes, pulling his hand. She loves the sound of the closing bell more than anything, and prefers the company of her parents to her peers. Weirdo.
Dad laughed, bending down to her level and placing his big hands on her tiny shoulders. "I'll be back to pick you up as soon as possible. I'm just going to the supermarket to buy your favorite snack."
