Maria's POV

"So we were able to solve question one to five," Mr Godswill said, peering at the maths textbook in his hands, "question six to ten will be your take home assignment, and I'll be getting it in our next class." He packed his bag from the teacher's desk at the front corner of the class to leave. "Good day, students," he said with a brief smile.

"Good day, sir," we all responded as he walked out.

I quickly stuffed my bag to meet Agnes who was waiting for me outside of my class, and we walked together.

"How did it go yesterday?" she asked.

"He explained all that happened and now I'm grounded."

She sighed. "Me too."

"Wait." I stopped walking, and so did she. "There's something I want to show you." I took out the note from my bag and gave it to her.

Agnes' POV

Your voice could make the Host of Angels envious. It's that beautiful... it read.

My mind drifted to the day at the farm. How Andrew had dived in to save her. The mouth to mouth. And as crazy as it sounds, I wished I was the one who had drowned instead, then I wouldn't have to stress so much just so he notice me. But now the boy I'd always liked had developed feelings for someone else and even writing love letters! I felt betrayed, but then it wasn't anybody's fault. Plus, they were my friends, but that didn't compensate for anything but rather made everything even more complicated.

Maria's POV

"Agnes..."

"Huh?" She jumped out of wherever her mind had dived into. "Oh, sorry," she said, recalling our conversation from seconds ago, "I was thinking who your secret admirer might be. But we both know it's Andrew."

I scoffed, taking the note from her, but the look on her face told me she wasn't joking. "Wait, you're serious?"

"Duh! You both had a connection and he kissed you," she stated matter-of-factly, blowing me away with her false comment and tone of jealousy.

"Is this about your feelings for Andrew?" I put her on the spotlight.

She forced a laugh. "I'm over him I swear!" she shrieked, pulling my arm and leading the way.

Dad honked as we got closer to the parking lot, a signal to quicken my steps. I rolled my eyes as I walked faster to the passenger side of the car, while Agnes stopped at the driver side to greet him.

"Good afternoon, sir," I heard her say after I'd settled in.

"Good afternoon, dear. Any adventure today?" His sarcastic question followed his warm response to her greeting, making me cringe so hard in my seat. He's a carefree person, and I appreciated the fact that that freedom in his personality accomadated my friends too. But sometimes, no, most times, he went too far.

Agnes stood still, not sure what reply to give him. "Uh... I'm grounded..."

"Good for you," he said, and for some weird reason she found his comment funny and bit back a laugh.

"You need a ride?" he then offered.

"My mum's on her way. Thanks."

He nodded at her response. "My regards to your mum."

"I'll pass the message."

He started the car, and I waved my friend goodbye.

The relationship with my dad became sour the night Andrew and Agnes' mum came to our house. He had been giving me the silent treatment ever since.
