The days rolled on, and the vibrant colors of Ishika's life began to fade under Arav's shadow. What had once been a joyful whirlwind of laughter and freedom now felt more like a tightening vice. Each moment with him came with a weight—a weight that pressed down on her heart, making her question every action and every decision.
"Where are you going?" Arav asked one afternoon, his voice cutting through the silence as Ishika slipped on her shoes. "Just out to grab coffee with Priya," she replied, attempting to keep her tone casual as she adjusted her scarf. "Can't you just have coffee at home?" He leaned against the wall, arms crossed, a furrow forming between his brows. "Why do you need to go out?" Ishika felt a knot tighten in her stomach. "Because I want to spend time with my friends, Arav. It's just coffee."
"Just coffee?" he scoffed, his expression shifting to one of disbelief. "You mean just another opportunity for you to chat with someone else? I don't think so."
"Arav, this isn't fair!" she shot back, frustration bubbling up within her. "You can't control who I talk to!"
"Control?" He stepped closer, his voice low and filled with a dangerous calm. "I'm just looking out for you. You should be grateful I care so much." Ishika felt her heart race as anger mixed with fear. "You think this is care? It feels suffocating. I need space!"
"Space?" His voice rose, and he took a step forward, closing the distance between them. "You call it space; I call it pushing me away. Why are you doing this?"
"Because I need to breathe!" Ishika exclaimed, her frustration bubbling over. "I can't just give up my life for you, Arav. I have friends, a life outside of this."
"Why do you always have to make it about you?" he snapped, his expression hardening. "I care about you, and you're throwing it back in my face."Ishika's heart sank. She was beginning to realize that every time she tried to express herself, it turned into a battle of wills. "I'm not throwing anything back in your face! I'm trying to talk to you."
"Talk?" He laughed bitterly. "You mean yell at me? Because that's what it feels like."
"I'm trying to make you understand," she said, her voice trembling. "But you're not listening to me. You're just hearing what you want to hear."
"Fine, go out with your friends," he spat, his tone sharp. "See if I care."
"Maybe I will!" Ishika shot back, grabbing her purse and heading for the door. She paused, turning to look at him one last time. "You're being unreasonable." As she stepped out, she felt a mix of relief and guilt, the door closing behind her echoing like a finality in her mind. Her heart raced as she made her way to the café where Priya was waiting. When she arrived, the familiar scent of coffee filled the air, and Priya's warm smile was a welcome sight. "Hey, you made it! I was starting to think you wouldn't come."
"Sorry, it's been... complicated," Ishika replied, her voice heavy with unspoken emotions as she sank into the chair across from her friend.Priya frowned, her brows knitting together in concern. "Complicated how? You seem off."
"It's Arav. He's getting more controlling," Ishika confessed, glancing around to ensure they were alone. "It feels like he's watching my every move."
"That doesn't sound healthy," Priya said, her voice steady but filled with concern. "What do you mean by controlling?"
"I mean he questions everything I do. Who I'm with, where I go. It's suffocating," Ishika explained, rubbing her temples as if to ease the headache forming. "I can't even hang out with you without him making a scene." Priya's eyes widened. "A scene? What do you mean?"
"He showed up uninvited last time. It was humiliating," Ishika admitted, her cheeks flushing at the memory. "He grabbed my arm and demanded I leave with him."
