Ishika stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror, her heart racing as she applied the last touch of lipstick. Today was the day she would finally see Rhea, her best friend, for the first time in weeks. She needed advice, a sense of normalcy, and maybe a reminder of the life she had before everything turned dark with Arav.
As she slipped on her jacket, a surge of guilt washed over her. She had told Arav she was working late on a project, but the need to confide in Rhea outweighed her fear. After all, she had to get out of this situation somehow.
With her heart pounding, Ishika slipped out of the apartment, careful not to make any noise. She made her way to the café where she and Rhea used to hang out, a familiar sense of excitement bubbling within her. The streets felt alive around her, but the thrill was tempered by the shadow of her circumstances.
But as she walked briskly, a cold shiver ran down her spine—the feeling of being watched. She shook it off, focusing on the meeting ahead. She arrived at the café, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on Rhea, who was sitting at their usual table, her face lighting up with a smile.
"Ishika!" Rhea exclaimed, standing up to hug her tightly. "I've missed you! You look different. Is everything okay?"
Ishika pulled away slightly, forcing a smile. "I've missed you too. It's been rough... I just needed to see you." The words tumbled out, laced with unspoken fears.
They settled into their seats, and for a moment, the world outside faded away. They talked about everything—their college plans, mutual friends, and the little things that made life feel manageable again. "Remember that time we got caught sneaking into the library at midnight?" Rhea laughed, her eyes sparkling with nostalgia.
"Of course! I thought we were going to get expelled," Ishika replied, chuckling at the memory. But as Ishika began to open up about her struggles with Arav, a shadow loomed over her.
"Things with Arav... they've become hard to manage," Ishika admitted, biting her lip. "He's become so controlling. I feel like I'm losing myself."
"Have you thought about—" Rhea started, but her voice faded as the café door swung open. Ishika's heart sank as she spotted Arav entering, his eyes scanning the room like a hawk. Panic set in. "Oh no, Rhea, it's Arav!" she whispered urgently.
Rhea's eyes widened, and they both instinctively ducked down. "What's he doing here?" Rhea asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her concern palpable.
"I don't know! I told him I was working late!" Ishika's voice trembled. "We have to get out of here."
But before they could make a move, Arav spotted them. His expression twisted into one of fury as he strode over. "Ishika!" he barked, his voice cutting through the café's chatter like a knife.
Rhea instinctively moved to protect her friend, but Arav shoved past her, grabbing Ishika by the wrist. "What the hell are you doing here?" His voice was low and dangerous, filled with an intensity that made the air around them feel electric.
"Arav, please! I was just—" Ishika stammered, trying to pull free. "It's not what you think!"
"Just what? Betraying me?" His grip tightened, and the fear in Ishika's chest flared. "I trusted you, Ishika! And you go behind my back to meet this... this bad influence?"
"Rhea is not a bad influence!" Ishika protested, glancing at her friend, who looked frozen in shock, her mouth agape.
Arav's eyes darkened with anger. "You think I don't know what's best for you? You think you can just run off whenever you want?" He began dragging Ishika toward the door, her heart racing in panic. "You're coming home with me. Now."
