if tomorrow never comes

jordyn and the inters followed dr. bailey through the halls of the hospital, the resident seemingly in a hurry as she weaved through the people that littered the halls of seattle grace, the interns scrambling to keep up with her.

"when we walk in this door, you will maintain decorum. you will not laugh, vomit, or drop your jaw. are we understood?" dr. bailey asked them as they reached the patients room. the interns all nodded as bailey opened the door.

"why would we laugh?" izzie asked curiously.

"oh, just you wait," alex answered her as they all walked in.

jordyn tried her best to stop her eyes from widening at the sight of the patient. the woman, miss connors, had a massive abscess protruding from her stomach in various lumps. in all her years at med school, jordyn had never seen a case like it.

"good morning, annie," karev greeted the woman, scratching the back of his head. "how are you? this is dr. bailey, and these are my fellow interns."

"dr. karev, we will refer to patients as mis-," dr. bailey attempted to correct him, but was cut of by the patient.

"i told him to call me annie," the woman assure the doctor. "mrs connors makes me feel old and fat, which i am, but why feel that way?"

"good morning," dr. burke said, entering the room.

"annie, this is dr. burke," alex introduced the patient to him, before lowering his voice to a whisper. "awesome surgeon." jordyn smiled a little at alex, she had never seen him this nice before... it was weird. he paused for a moment before dr. bailey reminded him to present the case to dr. burke. "oh, uh, annie connors is a 43 year old woman who presented last night with progressive shortness of breath for the past three months. uh, found to have a very large tumour of unknown origin pressed against her diaphragm. stable vital signs. scheduled for CT this morning, sir."

"thank you, dr. karev," burke nodded his head at the intern, before directing his attention to the patient. "are you at all claustrophobic?"

"well, i've been housebound for the last few years, how claustrophobic could i be?"

"all right, then," dr. burke laughed politely. "dr. stevens and dr. hayes are going to take you up for a CT. it'll give us a better look at the tumour, and we'll know how to proceed from there."

"could someone tell my mom?" annie asked. "she'll worry if she gets back and i'm not here."

"yeah, of course. of course."

"and, um, would it be possible for alex to take me instead?" annie pointed at alex. jordyn furrowed her eyebrows. she recognised that alex seemed to have made a bond with this patient, but it's been a while since jordyn had a good case to work on, so she was praying she could stay on this. "i mean, he- he's just so fun to look at."

alex snorted a litte, jabbing the patient lightly with his fist. "oh, annie."

"sure," dr. burke nodded with a smile. "sure, mrs connors. alex can take you up alongside dr. hayes. is that alright with you?"

"that's fine."

"all right. we'll if you'll excuse me."

dr. burke left the room as alex smiled widely at the patient. the other interns began to leave, apart from alex and jordyn who were staying. izzie dropped her head down to jordyn's ear and whispered, "have fun with evil spawn."
