Sorsha walked inside the office, phone in hand. "Hey Marjorie, I was hop-." When she looked up from the ground, she was met face to face with Autumn, the deputy everyone feared, including Sorsha, despite always squaring up with her husband. "Where's Marjorie?" Sorsha looked around, trying to find her. "She's in a meeting and will be for about another 15 minutes. Is there something I could help you with?" Autumn asked, seeing Sorsha's nervous face. "Nah, nah it's grand, it's grand." Sorsha started rocking back and forth. "Sorsha, what can I help you with?" Autumn asked the Irish woman, who was tapping her phone. "Oh, it's just... me wife is two days overdue, and I was wondering if Marjorie could just watch me phone incase Clodagh goes into labour, while I'm working." Sorsha smiled, still looking for Marjorie. "Sorsha, it's fine, I'll watch your phone for you." The deputy put her hand out, waiting for the phone to be placed on it. "Are you sure? Like, if you wanna, when Marjorie comes back, you can hand it straight to her if you need." Sorsha wanted to be extra careful around Autumn, knowing she just lost her little one. "Sorsha, you don't have to tiptoe around me, I'm happy for you and Clodagh, and I'm more than happy to watch your phone for you." Autumn let out a small smile, as did Sorsha as she handed Autumn the phone. "Thank you, Autumn." Just as Sorsha was about to leave, she remembered something. "But only answer the phone if it's me wife." Autumn gave her a confused look. "Me mam wants to put it on Facebook, so she wants to know first, but we don't wanna do that, so only answer if it's Clodagh." Autumn nodded and Sorsha walked out.
Halfway through the day, Autumn was working when Sorsha's phone rang. "Hello?" Autumn picked up the phone and answered. "Oh, hello Autumn, is Sorsha there?" Autumn looked up from her work. "I'll go get her there." Clodagh thanked her and Autumn hung up. Autumn went all around the nursey trying to find Sorsha, going from the room she was assigned in, to the staff room, to the kitchen, to the bathrooms, and the receptionist, and was able to get to Sorsha who was in the carpark. "Can you believe it? I came out here for some air and me car won't start," Sorsha started, and Autumn's face started to falter. "Imagine if Clodagh had gone into labour." Sorsha joked, as she turned around to face Autumn. "About that." Sorsha's face dropped. "Oh my god, has she!? How am I meant to get there!? Me car won't start!?" Sorsha started to panic, only to be calmed by Autumn's cold voice. "I'm driving you, get in." They both went to her car and Autumn sped off. Autumn sped through red lights, making sure Sorsha got there on time, though this made Sorsha a bit scared, but that didn't matter to her, all she wanted was to be there for her wife.
Hours went by, and Marjorie was sitting in her office, waiting for some news. "It was so good of you to drive her to the hospital Autumn." Marjorie smiled at Autumn, who was back at her desk and working. She responded with a hum, and on cue, the phone rang. "Hello, the Knight nursey." Marjorie answered it, putting the phone to her ear. "Hiya Marjorie, I'm a mam." A very exhausted Sorsha answered the phone, and when Marjorie heard the Irish woman's voice, she gasped. "Hello! Congratulations! How's Clodagh?" Marjorie started asking questions, which gave Autumn all the news she needed. The two women talked for a while, until Autumn saw the phone in front of her. "Sorsha wants to talk with you." Autumn looked confused but held the phone to her ear. "Hello Sorsha, congratulations with your new baby." Autumn spoke into the phone. "Thanks, I just wanted to thank you again Autumn, for getting me here so fast, just as I got into the room, they were getting ready to start," Sorsha started. "But I wanted you to be the first to know our little girls name, and I know you're not one for emotions, but... her name's Quinn... Autumn....Doyel..." Autumn's head perked up at her name. "I hope that's okay." Sorsha secretly hoped it was. "I think it's a lovely name." Autumn responded, hearing Sorsha's sigh. "We think so too." Autumn said goodbye and handed the phone back to Marjorie, who started talking to her immediately. A small smile appeared on Autumn's face.
Maybe she wasn't the bad guy in everyone's story after all.
