Bug hunting

Just as Toriel said, she took me through the Ruins to show me her favorite bug hunting spot. The other monsters didn't go near us at all and even when they tried, she gave them all a glare as if to show that they can't approach further. I was glad though to not fight again. My death still lingered in my mind and if I didn't have Chara to talk about that, I would be already going crazy...or would have just accepted my fate to stay dead. The ruins seemed to be more alive and bristling with monsters now that it was „daytime". There was no sunlight to indicate that it was day, but maybe it had to do with magic again. I still wondered where the way to the city was, but maybe I wasn't allowed to go there as human. Or it was a secret passage in case for emergencies.

Once we got through the busy halls and over the puzzles from yesterday, she led me back to the place I had fallen down. I looked a little confused as he crouched down next to the yellow flowers, inspecting each petal. Toriel must have noticed my silence and chuckled softly.
„I have to make sure the flowers are well handled and not withering. My green thumb was always a little sore. You can look around in case you find already some bugs."
Or I could try to get my back down. I couldn't reach it because it was too high up, but now I had a fishing net that could maybe have the perfect size to help me out. I walked up to the roots and raised the net, trying to at least push against the roots to make them shake around and let the bag fall.

Chara, who had been trying to make me slip up the whole walk by talking to them, decided to give me another chance to mess up.
„You are still too small to reach the roots. Did you really think that fishing net will help you out?"
Grr...how badly I wanted to talk to them that it wasn't a bad idea. In the television I saw that a tall object can be a life savior. They float close to the backpack, pushing against it, but of course it didn't work.
„See? Nothing will work. What even is in there? It must be light for the roots to keep it up here."
Their poking made it not easier to not talk as I got on my toes to gain some bits of more centimeters. But even than I wasn't tall enough to reach it.

I could hear the surprised chuckle of Chara as they hold a hand over their mouth.
„Oh man...so close and yet so far away."
„I nearly reach it...!"
„Reach what, my child?"
I tensed as Toriel came up a few feet behind me, smiling and looking curious up at the place I am trying to reach. Her eyes widened as she the bag and got closer to me. However she didn't stood too close, giving me enough space to feel comfortable and safe.
„Is this backpack yours?"
„Yes...it got stuck during my fall..."
The light shined also down into the hole, illuminating the walls and roots even better. Back when I fell I didn't really pay attention, but now I saw that the branches and roots were forming a sort of symbol.

But I couldn't stare long enough as Toriel reached out with her fishing net and moved the branch the bag was stuck, letting it fall right into her free pawn. She looked down at me, handing me the backpack gently.
„Here you go. Is there anything else, with that you would require assistance?"
„N-no...thank you."
I hold the backpack more tightly and looked down at it. Yes...it was rather light. There was not enough time to pack for much. Some bandages, a block to write and a pen. And inside those bandages-
„My child?"
I looked up at her worried gaze. Huh? Why is he looking worried? My eyes glanced shortly to Chara who had their arms crossed and their eyes rolling.

She asked if anything important was in that bag of yours."
Oh. I must have been too lost in thoughts again. Quickly my eyes went back to her as I shook my head.
„No...nothing much..."
My hands dug into the firm cloth, staring back to the bag. It was nothing important...not like it will matter now, right? ☞︎❒︎♓︎⬧︎🙵
The air got a sudden chill as I stared up at the hole, trying to figure out if that noise came from outside or if I imagined it. Maybe the sleep wasn't as resting as it had appeared first.
„Can we continue bug hunting now...?"
„Oh, of course my child! Let's go."
