The snow crunches softly under my boots as we continued step by step. Air clouds formed with every breath as large tress surrounded us and only made a path forward. Even if everything looked peaceful, I felt like being watched at every second which made me shiver. Chara seemed to misunderstand though as they scoffed and had a smirk on their face to lighten the mood a little.
„Should have took a jacket. You knew we would go here."
„Yes...would have been smart. I still need to find that weird star, so maybe I will have another chance for that..."
Parts of it were sarcastic as I rubbed my arms to create some warmth. Imagining dying...no, not again. Not so short after I got killed by Toriel.Yet a shiver went up my spine as I heard a second pair of boots right behind me. I turned around, but nothing was there. What?? But I definitely heard someone just now!
„Hey, what's the hold up?"
Chara also turned their head and crossed their arms while floating around me. It seems they didn't feel the shiver...most likely because they aren't alive with a body to feel something dangerous.
„I feel like someone is watching us..."
I glanced around in the forest, but nothing was in sight. But my feeling at something was always right...At least I think it was. Toriel was a being I trusted, but in the end, she too...„Stop dawdling Frisk. You can relax and think AFTER we find the light."
I nod, slowly starting to walk again. Whatever follows me, it got no breath. No sounds as well.
„But someone is really following us Chara! What if I...if I get..."
„No, I do believe you. It's just that I feel no hate or murderous attempts. You will be fine, whatever follows you."
„How can you be so sure? What if it hides their murder aura?"
They rolled their eyes and put a hand on their chest while floating closer to me.
„Hello?? Who died multiple times already? You will get the hang out of it after a few years."Will I though? I sighed and noticed a huge stick on the ground. It would be perfect to block at least some attacks! I crouched down snd tried to lift it, but it wouldn't even move an inch. The ghostly friend chuckled and leaned back with their body a little.
„Yeah, no. The stick is too heavy for you. Just leave it here."
„Aww, but I need something to block attacks!"
„You think a stick is gonna help you with that?"
„It's better than nothing..."
I mumbled, slightly pouting and giving up to pick it up. This branch is definitely too heavy. But a few steps later, the loud cracking was heard and I turned around, seeing the heavy and huge wood now snapped in two. With a side glance, I turned to look up at Chara.„Are you still sure it's safe for me?"
They didn't say anything, staring wide eyed to the broken branch while slowly moving to stand and not float anymore.
„...No, actually. Let's just run!"
Chara tried to grab my hand, cursing that it went through, but I got the message and ran. But I didn't get far as I stopped at a bridge. They turned around, looking annoyed and confused.
„What are you waiting for?? Those pillars here are wide enough to pass through!"
„I can't...I can't move!"
My hand clutched around my chest, my thumping heart rushing into my ears. Why won't my legs move?? Why can't I turn around? I looked to Chara, who looked behind me with wide eyes.Steps echoed in this silence as I had a hard time to even breathe normally. It felt like my entire body and soul is being extremely heavy. My knees buckled, the cold rushing through every artery in my body.
„Holy...I haven't seen Skeletons when I was still alive."
Skeletons?
„H u m a n."
The voice felt familiar, but I couldn't remember from where.
„D o n' t y o u k n o w h o w t o g r e e t a
n e w p a l ? T u r n a r o u n d a n d s h a k e
m y h a n d."My eyes couldn't look up as I turned around. All I could see was a bony hand outstretching to mine. Is this a trick? A way to kill me? And why does it feel like I heard his voice before? My hand shook heavily as I slowly outstretched it, ready to feel a sharp sting or pain, but instead, a loud farting noise was heard. Out of nowhere, my body felt lighter again as I looked up, seeing a smiling skeleton with a whoopee cushion. In the hand I had just shook. He started to chuckle, his black eye sockets revealing a tiny white light inside.
„he heh... the old whoopee cushion in the hand trick. it's ALWAYS funny."
What? A...joke? I took my hand away and took a cautious step back. He seemed to see my uncomfortable stance, but kept his smile and calm tone the same.
