Ava
I sprinted through the dimly lit streets, adrenaline pumping, desperate to escape Aaron. My only hope was to reach Jesse. I pounded on her door, praying I wouldn't find it locked—or worse.
"Ava?" Jesse's voice came through the door, concern evident.
Before she could say anything else, I threw my arms around her, holding on like she was my lifeline. "Are you in trouble?" she asked, her voice steady but laced with worry.
"Yes, Jess."
"Come inside," she urged.
It struck me as odd that she didn't press for details, but I didn't care. The words spilled out as I explained everything that had happened.
"What did you remember while running?" Jesse asked, her brows furrowed in concern.
"I thought about my time with Danny and my diaries," I replied, the weight of memories flooding back.
"Your diaries?" she echoed, surprised.
"Yes! When I was younger, I wrote in them as a different person, not as Ava. It was...." I trailed off, interrupted by a sudden knock at the door.
"Who is it?" I whispered, panic rising.
"Calm down. It's just the pizza I ordered before you got here. I'll get it," Jesse said, moving toward the door.
I headed into the kitchen, my heart racing. But then I heard a familiar, chilling voice.
"Hello, sweetheart," Aaron said, stepping through the kitchen entrance.
Horror washed over me as I turned to Jesse, eyes wide.
"Ava, I'm so sorry, but he was going to kill me! I didn't have a choice!" Jesse cried, tears streaming down her face.
"I don't want to hear it, Jesse!" I shouted, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Well, sorry, girls, but I'm not in the mood to listen," Aaron sneered, brandishing a gun aimed straight at Jesse's heart.
"No!" I screamed, but it was too late. The gun went off, and Jesse collapsed to the floor, lifeless.
"Sorry, I hate cheaters," Aaron said coldly, looking at me with a twisted grin.
"What...?" My voice faltered, disbelief washing over me.
"Good night, Ava," he said, raising the gun again before the world went dark as he struck my head.
