CeeCee started the week in a bubble of happiness. Things with John were in a good place, she would wake up feeling like you did on the first morning of a holiday when you had so much to look forward to. Even the barista who she ordered her vanilla latte from every morning commented on her mood, insisting that Celeste was far too happy for a Monday morning. CeeCee wanted to gush that if the girl had someone as hot as John lighting up her phone then she would be smiling too but she was still terrified of jinxing things. So instead she smiled warmly as she picked up her iced coffee (well, it was spring) and insisted it was just the sunny day that had her smiling.
As she stepped outside her phone started to ring, she fumbled around for it in her tote bag one-handed, careful not to spill her drink down her new nude pink trousers.
"Good morning!" John's voice boomed down the phone, with no indication that he had only opened his eyes 15 minutes before. He was working from home today so there was no rush to be in the office, instead he planned to sit at his computer in boxers and a t-shirt working his way through a packet of chocolate Hobnobs with Ben.
They made small talk for a few minutes, there wasn't much to say having spoken just last night right before they had gone to sleep in their separate beds in their separate apartments. Chat soon turned to the events of the weekend; Sunday Lunch Club yesterday, where Dec and Liv had behaved perfectly normally with no sign of Saturday's domesticity, how bad their hangovers had turned out to be on Saturday, then finally, Liv's party, and more importantly how Declan had found his way into her bed again.
"Have you asked her what the fuck's going on yet?" John didn't beat around the bush, days later it was still bothering him that there was clearly more going on between Olivia and Declan than he knew. Ever since uni he and Liv had been completely open books with each other and he didn't like being shut out so if Liv wasn't going to give him full disclosure he'd get Celeste to find out the truth.
"Yes," Celeste had tried her best to get Liv to open up but she had all but laughed in her face and told her she was letting her imagination run away with itself again. "She said he's just an excellent shag."
"Excellent!?" John scoffed, Declan was a child, although he did have to admit it had sounded like Liv was thoroughly enjoying herself. "She said Ruben was a good fuck too but didn't get to swan around her kitchen like he owned the place."
"Are you jealous your bestie has a new friend to play with?!" He liked the sound of Celeste's laughter as she teased him. For years she had been so uptight around him, and he loved that she had finally let her walls down. He shouldn't have been surprised that Celeste had hit the nail on the head, she had always been perceptive. He pursed his lips to deny it, but then he thought better of it. He didn't want to lie to her. "Are you not?!" He challenged, surely Celeste felt the same as him.
"Not really," Celeste shrugged, she was walking at a far slower place than she usually did in the mornings, enjoying the sound of John's voice, which was still a little raspy with sleep, taking her back to waking up with him Saturday morning. "It's not weird for her to have a fuck buddy," Celeste said matter-of-factly.
