Chapter 26:

A few days later, Roger had taken Siobhan into the nurseries. Whilst he spoke to the siblings about the wedding date, Siobhan had to face the others. If Siobhan had it her way no one would be there, she wouldn't even be there. She would be with Viv, lovely Viv. Not with Roger, a wedding trapping her in a relationship intertwined with abuse.

M: oh! Siobhan you're not covering today, what are you doing here?

S: I have to pass along some information about the ball to the staff attending as Roger is busy talking to the siblings..

M: what do you mean?

Siobhan stared blankly at the Siobhan as she stuttered. Playing with her hair, stroking it down, she did this when she was anxious.

S: we are gonna kill two birds with one stone, so we will be married at the ball.

M: I'm sorry? WHAT!

S: that will be all.

Siobhan said, walking out. Little did she know Vivian was hiding round the corner, tears streaming down her face.

—————-

Vivian's pov:

'we are gonna kill two birds with one stone, so we will be married at the ball.'

Her voice rang in my ears, the curiosity of Siobhan and her voice lured me in just for me to crumble. Tears begin to fall from my eyes as I hear her exit into the hall. I dash behind a corner, covering my mouth, hiding my sobs.

—————-

Siobhan sighed deeply, her expression was carved into her face. Still, stern, emotionless. She walked towards Roger striking a conversation with his as he stood scrolling on his phone by Agatha's desk.

S: how did the siblings take it?

R: lots of yelling, Reece screaming about how we are moving too quickly. Autumn yelling about how you are the same age as her and-

S: ok then, so not well?

She cut off Roger. She couldn't hear her own thoughts being relayed to her. She thought it was disgusting, she was the same age as his children. In the start, she was desperate, only wanted help, attention she desperately craved and it ended up here, a marriage.

R: yep, but age is just a number, so who cares what they think

S: mhm

Siobhan replied, holding back gags. She was repulsed by him, she despised him.

——————————-

Vivian rushes into the staff room, she didn't care that she was a parent. She ran behind the lockers and grabbed the packet of cigarettes Mia had hidden for herself when the meetings she attended got slightly heated.

Vivian hated smoking, before becoming a nurse she would smoke daily. It was a disgusting habit but oh how she loved it. She could tell that the addiction was slowly creeping back.
She ran into her car, driving straight to the shops buying more cigarettes and a lighter.

It was a quiet Tuesday morning, she stood outside her local shop, breathing in and out the smoke filling the air around her.

Siobhan entered viv's mind, her vulnerability, cased and hidden by her stern attitude. She was snapped up from these thoughts and met Mia's playful gaze.

Mi: um excuse me? I was just looking for them!

V: oops!

She laughs blowing smoke into the redheads face.

Mi: just rushed here to buy more! come on, share.. We are meant to be quitting you know?

V: I haven't smoked in 3 years. I've missed it.

Mi: charlottes got me on stupid nicotine patches.

V: ha! you're actually gonna have to stop now

Mi: well anything for char

V: couple goals i guess

Mi: you're upset about the ball...?

V: yep..

Mi: we need to work fast, it's in a week and a half. Are you still gonna come?

V: I have to, I'll be strong it's just.. we need to help her.

Mi: we will, don't worry.

————————-

M: oh Siobhan you're still here! A little one has just thrown up everywhere and it's chaos, would you mind calling the parent?

Siobhan looks up at Roger rolling her eyes and walking back into the office.

S: Marjorie! Who am I calling?

She called out into the hallway

M: Jamie's mum!

Oh god. Viv.

She slowly turned the dials on the phone and listened to the phone ring.
Roger stood outside the office door, Reece and autumn talking to him, from what she could see it was the siblings confronting him once again, they glared into the office at Siobhan. They couldn't help but hold a sting of resentment towards her, that resentment wasn't really true, it was only emotions buried deep down for their own mother.  A mother they felt was being betrayed and replaced, it wasn't Siobhan's fault and they knew it.

V: hello, Vivian speaking

Siobhan fell silent.

S: uh just the nursery calling...

——————-

Vivian slams her hands over the speaker and whispers to Mia 'it's Siobhan'

V: uh sorry you broke up can you repeat that?

S: it's the nursery calling.

V: nope sorry, one more time?

'Oh for god sake! Viv it's me can you hear me? '

An angry hushed voice echoed from the phone

V: oh Bon!

Vivian hummed with a sarcastic tone

V: what can I do for you?

Siobhan explains how Jamie needed to be collected and offers in a whisper to help out the best she can. Vivian struggles for cover in her line of work.

V: I should be fine but on Thursday would you be able to help out for an hour as my shift starts early that day?

Silence? Strange.

'I can't do Thursday.. I have my wedding dress fitting'

V: no worries, I'll find someone else!

She says hanging up the phone cutting off Siobhan.

——————-

I sigh, I can feel hot tears burning in my eyes as I drag on my cigarette.

———————

S: I can move it!-

Siobhan whispers desperately into the phone. Roger was stood outside, she didn't want him to hear. The phone line went silent

'Damn it.'
