"Not very long ago!" Josh replied with a smug grin. "Why?" Vritika asked, curiosity piqued.
"He had met someone who was a real beauty!" Josh exclaimed, hands clasped to his chest. "A nymph, according to him, who descended from heaven's stairs just for him."
Josh's dramatic flair drew chuckles from the others, but I sensed unease creeping up my spine.
"She was so beautiful," Josh continued, "that when I offered him my sister's hand, he refused!" He pouted, feigning offense.
I rolled my eyes, exasperated. These guys weren't helping. They seemed to relish stirring up tension between Ayla and me before our wedding.
I glanced at Ayla, who was engrossed in Josh's story, her attention completely diverted from me. She had subtly withdrawn from my touch, leaving my hand hanging empty.
Jarek's inquiry sparked a chain reaction. "What's her name?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
Janav eagerly chimed in, "Yeah! Yeah! Who's she?" His rascality was palable.
My frustration boiled over, and I slammed my fist on the pillow. "No one! Shut up, all of you!" I roared, irritation etched on my face.
Vidharth smirked mischievously. "Why should they shut up?" His tone dripped with amusement.
Josh seized the opportunity, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Yeah! Right! You shouldn't keep secrets about your crushes from your future wife."
I gritted my teeth, dismayed by my brother-in-law/friend's betrayal.
Seeking refuge, I discreetly reached for Ayla's wrist, hoping to steal a private moment. But she slipped away. She freed her hand from my grasp without even a glance.
Drake, another cousin of her's, jumped into the fray. "Where did they meet?"
Josh grinned mischievously. "Ooh, don't ask! According to him, she was a nymph who descended from heaven just for a few seconds and vanished."
Vritika's eyes widened. "Huh?!"
Ariv chuckled. "Was he drunk?"
Vidharth deadpanned. "Definitely."
Josh's eyes locked onto Vidharth. "And what about that bookstore girl? The one he used to stalk?"
Vidharth picked up the story. "Yeah, he was smitten! He'd stand outside her shop, and whenever the owner questioned him, he'd buy a book just to linger."
"What the hell are you guys talking about?!" I exclaimed, dumbstruck by their fabricated story. "Which girl? What bookstore?"
Josh chuckled. "Oh, come on, Adwait. My sister can handle it."
