The civilization has collapsed. There is no daylight anymore. The day is dim like an evening and the night is pitch black meaning that if you haven't found a safe place to sleep in when the night comes, you will be left defenseless in complete darkness. It's cold, not freezing cold but without at least somewhat warm clothes you're not gonna survive for long. The world is filled with the corruption. Some sort of infection you can't get rid of. Darkness that hurts your body and makes people go insane. There are humans, animal humanoids (within the world they are called rhenos), critters, and terrible beasts called clamors. Rhenos are more or less just like humans. Most differences between humans and rhenos are manifested by the people within the Dark world, aside from looks of course. Often one will have a problem with another because they are a different species. It isn't a rule and groups made from multiple species do exist but generally, if you're a different species others will trust you less. The critters are small, nibble, and annoying because they'll steal your food, and trying to catch them is usually more trouble than worth. The worst are clamors. In addition to being big, fast, and having huge claws, most turned insane from the corruption. Clamors come in different versions but all are equally monstrous. That should be enough to get an idea of how the world is.
