Sigrid's PoV

Five days had passed since Ryuu joined our familia. At first, the transition was a bit rough. Alise, in her exuberant way, was too touchy-feely for Ryuu's comfort. And while Kaguya seemed cordial enough, it was hard to say if they truly got along or not.

As for me, I did my best to make Ryuu feel welcome. I invited her to train with me in the mornings and introduced her to the other children in the town.

Slowly but surely, she began to open up and smile more. I was glad to see her finding her place among us.

Today, I was preparing for an expedition to the 32nd floor. My trusted sword Aegis Aqua had just been returned to me after routine maintenance by Tsubaki. I gave the blade a few practice swings, enjoying the familiar weight and balance. All was in readiness for the quest Rose had given me five days prior - to investigate and defeat a mysterious black humanoid monster with wings.

As I made my way towards Babel, lost in thought, a kind voice pulled me from my musings.

''Morning Sigrid-chan, already off to the dungeon so early? And alone too?''

I turned with a smile underneath my mask to see the kind Kate. ''Good morning, Kate-san! Yes, I've got a quest from the guild that requires a solo venture this time. Speaking of which, where's my favorite kitty Nala-chan? She usually comes running to demand cuddles from me.''

Kate chuckled warmly. ''Still sleeping I'm afraid. That energetic cat must have been wandering all night on her adventures, she was exhausted when she finally came home.''

I nodded in understanding. Nala was always such an adventurous spirit, just like me. It made me smile to picture her curled up cozily while the rest of us began our day.

''I won't hold you up any longer. Good luck in there, and come back safe and sound. I don't want our favorite neighborhood girl to be put under house arrest again by Astraea-sama for recklessness.'' Kate said with a gentle smile.

''Thank you Kate-san, have a wonderful day!'' I waved goodbye and continued on my way.

As I walked, I was greeted by familiar faces once again - the friendly people of Orario who always seemed to brighten up my day.

''Morning Sigrid-chan!''

''Sigrid-chan, stop by my shop after your expedition - I'll have something special waiting for you!''

''Sigrid-chan, eat this apple for energy!''

I thanked everyone warmly, feeling grateful for the kindness of the community. It filled me with determination to protect these smiles, even as Evilus threatened chaos from the shadows. The people of Orario gave me strength. I was fighting not just for justice, but for the bonds of hope that kept our home bright.

As I turned down another alleyway, a beautiful, honey-like voice called out from the shadows. ''Are you perhaps Valkyrie, Sigrid Kaslana?''

I turned to see a woman cloaked all in black, her face hooded so only the lower half was visible. Yet somehow, I could sense her great beauty even so obscured. A lock of shining silver hair escaped her hood as well.

''Yes, that's me. Can I help you?'' I asked politely.

''Not really...I just wanted to thank you,'' she said, walking closer. ''You and your familia do so much for this city. As a token, I'd like you to have this.''

She revealed an aquamarine gemstone pendant necklace in her hand - it looked incredibly expensive.

''Ah, no way! You can't give me something so precious!'' My eyes widened at its sheer value and craftsmanship; this was clearly worth more than most adventurers made in years!
