Chapter 9: New Beginnings

Micky's mom dropped another bombshell. "Micky, I've been thinking...it's time for you to focus on your music career."

Micky's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"

His mom smiled. "I've arranged a meeting with a record label. They're interested in signing you."

Micky's mind reeled. A record deal?

Emily's excitement was contagious. "That's amazing, Micky!"

Micky's doubts surfaced. "But what about college?"

His mom's expression turned serious. "Micky, your music is your passion. It's time to take a chance."

Micky's heart swelled with gratitude. His mom finally understood.

As they celebrated, Emily's hand found his.

"I'm proud of you, Micky," Emily whispered.

Micky's eyes met Emily's. "I couldn't have done it without you."

Their lips met in a tender kiss.

But amidst the joy, Micky's phone buzzed with an unexpected text...

"Hey, Micky. Congrats on the record deal. But be careful. The music industry isn't all glamour."

The message was from an unknown number.

Micky's instincts prickled. Who was this?

Micky's curiosity got the better of him. He texted back: "Who is this?"

The response was immediate: "Someone who knows the truth. Meet me at Java Junction tomorrow at 5 pm if you want to know more."

Micky's mind raced. What truth? And who was this mysterious messenger?

Emily noticed his concern. "What's wrong?"

Micky hesitated, unsure if he should share. "Just a weird text."

Emily's eyes narrowed. "Tell me."

Micky showed her the messages. Emily's expression turned serious.

"Do you think it's related to the record deal?" Emily asked.

Micky shrugged. "I don't know, but I need to find out."

The next day, Micky arrived at Java Junction, nervous.

A figure in the corner caught his eye. A woman with piercing green eyes.

"You're Micky," she stated.

Micky nodded. "Who are you?"

"My name is Lena. I used to work at Starlight Records."

Micky's ears perked up. "The label that wants to sign me?"

Lena nodded. "Yes. But be warned, Micky. They'll chew you up and spit you out."

Micky's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"

Lena leaned in. "They care about one thing: profit. Not your music, not your passion. Just money."

Micky's heart sank. Was his dream turning into a nightmare?
